I have been watching the A-League ratings closely, to see what they could offer in years to come.
Fox are averaging about 71k per match down from 86k at the same time last year and up from 62k the year before.
There FTA numbers are a tad mixed, there ratings this year per match are 87k, the 87 k is the total of both metro and regional and similar to Fox is down on last year but up the year before.
There rating have been up against new competition i.e the RLWC and women’s cricket.
A glaring issue they share with us is they despise their management and the governance of FFA looks like having the current board given the hve ho by FIFA.
Add to this the punch up between Fox N CBS.
Last night we had Australian play in men’s RLWC, Women’s cricket for the ashes, a women’s RlWC match, basketball.
When Super Rugby starts this year it will be up against the second season of women’s AFL, the new 7 a side short field AFL game.
What does it all mean for rugby? IMO it clearly shows a house divided against itself declines across the board. Negativity breads negativity hands up I am as guilty as anyone in this regard.
For me FFA’s experience is they are struggling against new competition in a stale format with key stakeholders infighting.
It looks so similar to what we went through this year.
When I look at rugby today I see a state of near civil war between WA and the rest. I see a competition well beyond stale. I see infighting, ego’s and lack of vision and a game today riddled with self-interest and arse covering.
Soccer has one huge advantage a circuit breaker called FIFA who will step in and clam the waters. WE don’t mores the pity.
So yer a big international not up against anything will heaps on the line will rate. But they must be worried about the fall in numbers , but its been a totally different year for them. I think soon they will have a new and very expansion minded board and if that comes to pass it will be interesting.
