What happened to Max Girdler?

Girdler is not the only player in the 28 man squad not named in the Match Day 23 for Game 1 vs NZL.

Two possible outcomes.

1. He is not up to Match Day Standard, but remains good enough to be in the wider squad of approx 28 for the Oceania Tournament.

2. Coach Thompson will be using these games as trials to finalise the squad of 28 that he takes away to Manchester, and is trying out various combinations, so Girdler (and others) may get a place in the Match Day 23 for Game 2.

The fact that 2015 Jnr RWC veterans Sione Tuipuloto and Lukhan Tui are starting on the bench in game 1, along with the absence of Alex Mafi, suggests that the Selectors haven't finalised their squad for Manchester yet.

..... And Hugh's Law will mean that yet another two from Shadow will get a flight to Manchester.

Good scrum to Aus. Ball in hand 20m out and get a penalty. Kick finds touch. 5m lineout

Tough pass to Mason who knocks on in his own red zone. 5m scrum NZ feed.

Aussies have the better of the scrums. But are scrambling elsewhere and getting beat at the breakdown.

NZ scrum collapses on TH side and gets pinged.

Scrum is good, but overall the Joeys are lacking the same cohesion as the Baby Blecks, Sorovi's passing isn't helping, big big step down from Tuttle.

Slick backline running from NZ ... and they get over after a recycle

NZ 13-3 with kick to come from 10m in from the RH sideline

Barrett misses the conversion

Sorovi backing up on the shortside Maddock quick hands to his winger who passes inside and puts his halfback over

NZ looking threatening in the forwards ... hit ups and recycles and after a few good hits the Aussies run out of defence. Converted by the younger bro of Beauden Barrett
