Yeah you'd think it's a bit early - and club footy is on now.
Although a parent who was at the awards presentation said the ARU guys announced the initial Squad of 24 would be selected within 2-3 weeks & those players would be contacted. Then I assume there will be training camps used to select the final squad of 12.

Yeah at the presentation they said they would be naming the squad of 24 (12 boy's and 12 Girls)within the week with 3 camps scheduled before the games and obviously they would want to make use of the school holidays for these camps leading up to the games in Sept. Mind you they may have been looking at the senior championships if any youth prospects were lurking in the senior teams.

12 in each of the boys and girls squads is not many.... especially with school committments, injuries, and the fact that the games are such a long time away.

I would have thought it would initially be squads of 24 each, with some training camps to eventually get to a team of 12 each. We'll see I suppose!

Good luck to all the young men and women who are hoping to win a spot in the squad!

Anybody know if the Commonwealth Youth Boys and Girls Representative teams have been picked yet?

Emails and letters sent to squad members today. 24 in the squad. 3 training camps in Sydney over the next few months with 12 being selected in the final team plus 3 shadows..... Teams announced soon I suppose!

Would Riverview's Henry Hutchinson of its first XV past 2/3 years have been young enough to play this year?

From what I've heard, he's got the skills to play at the top level of 7's!

From the GPS QLD forum:

"Hewat has declined the 7's as a busy year is ahead of him I heard . To much interference with GPS comp and Nationals which I believe he is focusing on selection for the the OZ schoolboy side but still a great honour to be put into the 24 man squad."

I had previously commented on that same forum that those finally selected will miss the last 2 games of the GPS season; there are also clashes with the individual school rugby camps, trial matches, also with the schoolboy trials, the nationals, aus school rep stuff etc... Busy year for boys with school work supposedly the priority.. and big decisions to be made if they are lucky enough to have options.

If for instance the 3 x BBC boys were to make the final team they would have three of their best players out for the last two games of the GPS season. 2 out of a 9 game season is a lot, espcecially if they are on scholarships and the schools therefore have a vested interest in them.....

No Tyrone T?
Say it isn't so.
I watched him play 7s on Saturday night, coming off the back off the Youth Champs at Narrabeen.
I thought his name would have been on the list.

I also saw Simon K and Harrison G. They played well. Their names are on the list.
