Any news on the QLD team?

Southern States Team has been named.

Anyone got a Tonga Team List?

QLD under 20 has been chosen. It includes all former Australian schoolboys from 2012 ( Pleash,Korczyk, Gunn, Fakosilea, Greene, Placid) mixed with 2011 players (Kaitu, Maloney, Walls,Gale, Fattal) and few exciting additions ( Banks, Kallel, Levi). The championship will be hotly contested. Not doubt about this.

Even though we seem to be doing more this year than previously, anyone think that the Aust U20's may be going into the Jnr RWC a little underdone?

^^ That is the $64000 question isn't it.

Unlikely to get answered by an organisation in financial crisis, with "lets have a tournament with NZ/PI's".

The current arrangement is a significant improvement on last years preparation.

There are 12 teams at the Jnr RWC. 6 of them participate in the U20 6N with no travel any more than Canberra to Brisbane.

Logistically and economically it shouldn't be too hard to arrange a 4 way NZ v Samoa v Fiji v Aust tournament as a preparation for the majority of the non NH teams. That leaves SA and Arg not having a tough warm up tournament. IIRC the Saffers have some inbound tours from NH as preparation.

This argument happens every year - why don't the U20's have some games with Fiji, Samoa or NZ. Hasn't happened in the past and it appears that it won't happen in the enar future. I suspect that the smaller Pacific teams aren't in a position to send their u20's although samoa and Fiji are in the JWC and NZ are happy to do their own thing. It would cost theARU too much to send them on a Pacific tour

Why have we abandoned the annual fixture against PNG? That worked a treat last year with us advancing one place up the tournament rankings.

Thanks to @David Connors for the list. I couldn't help myself with the formatting edit.

This Red selection must go into the tournament as favourites to "win", and many of these young men will need to have their passports in order.

It'd be great to have a game or two with the whole team together, but what exactly did you have in mind?

The Aus Under 20 coach, Adrian Thompson, told me that the Oz Under 20s will have the following programme after the team is selected:

April 22 – May 4 – Bond University training camp

Trying to arrange for games vs Fiji and Samoa but still not confirmed.

May 20 -29 – Narrabeen training camp

· May 24 vs NSW Country Cockatoos (Chatswood Oval 5.30pm)

· May 27 vs Aust BaaBaas (Chatswood Oval 6.30pm

Adrian said that the ARU approached NZ for warm-up games but "they weren't interested."

His goal is to eventually have a 4N comp with the Super Rugby Nations as an answer to the 6N Under 20s tournament which has enabled them to overtake NZ, South Africa and Aus in the last two years (his words.)

No Jim Stewart. Is he too old or injured?

Injured, as is Callum Buckling and Reece Hodge; but these three players could still be considered for the IRB JWC if they can be fit for the camps.

I've seen the NSW Colts play in a couple of trial games against senior players. The backs will give a good account of themselves but I fear the forwards will lack a bit of physical presence.

Mind you, playing against senior players (one the Argentina PRC team) is not a fair comparison.

Isaiah Mosese is an interesting name to pop back up in the Reds U20s. Was signed straight out of school to an EPS contract at the Rebels, but only hung around for the one year. I believe discipline has been an issue, but you can't put in what god left out, and he got plenty.

Mosese was in WA before he went to the Rebels. I remember seeing him play a couple of Force 'A' games. Magic feet. Heard the same about discipline- but he is still a young fella. Maybe he's come good.

Lets hope he goes well.. This tournament is bloody exciting, so much better than the previous process. You would have to think it will make for a competitive run at the Championship as well.

Worst case scenario, even if the Australia team fails, this U20 championship will be a fantastic new talent identification process which will hopefully ensure that the best players with most potential are then selected for full time contracts.

I'm very interested to see how this year's team goes. Last year's side had arguably the best pack in the tournament but a terrible backline.
