SA were frightening this morning but I suspect they will end up second seeds behind England so hopefully, if Ireland can secure the try BP against Fiji we will play the very beatable White Orcs in the semi finals. Whether anyone will beat the Bokker monsters is another matter.

Bokkies have some injury worries. But they'll have some backup stock.

bugger, missed all that, sounds like it was a bit reminiscent of the final a few years ago in Japan when the pomeroid (TM pat pending) forwards looked far bigger, more professional, and better drilled than NZ but as soon as it went out in the backs Cruden and in particular Robbie Robinson absolutely carved them apawt

Professional player? He isn't even in the Reds EPS, he is a 19yr old in Wider Training Squad of 30 players who don't get paid..

But hey, if you want to blame him for Australia's performance then that's fine, I personally don't see the merit in scapegoating a 19yr old kid for the failure of a collective team..
He has debuted for the Reds?
Don't put words in my mouth.
I said it was worthy of comment.
I blamed him for nothing more than hubris.
If someone posts the incident you will be embarrassed for defending it.
I actually hope he plays for the Reds for a decade.

Nope, I watched the game and commented at the time.. Did you read the thread?
The issue was I took exception to someone claiming Placid cost Australia a place at the tournament, I considered it a ridiculous comment when Australia had already conceded 38points at that point in the game, that's when you injected yourself to the conversation.

Anyway, this is a silly argument, I think all the young fellas did themselves proud today but just couldn't match some highly talented England players.

I think we need to look at what a successful tournament for us is and gauge the outcome on that. After following this level of rugby for a number of years success for Australia is having boys from the right schools representing us, so we can stand in the old school bars and tell each other how well our schools have done. On a positive note, the CEO got his son in from 2XV Colts so can't all be bad. The boys who played today have never beaten England at any age group yet we persist with the same selection processes. Let hope we can arrest the decay before the fabric of junior rugby has totally gone.

England too big, too strong and too fast. Forwards outplayed the Aus pack and the backs ran some very impressive lines that ours didn't seem able to counter. No 9 was especially quick to the breakdown and recycled such fast ball our defence was on the back foot the whole game. Looked like a professional team playing an amateur one.

Think they will match it with the Saffas if they meet in the final, as I expect. Some very big units in both teams.

Ref made some howlers, including the No 13 chasing from in front of the kicker to win the ball in the air that led to their first try.

Well yeah, that is when I jumped in.
I disagreed with your stance that the margin was not the issue, and that it was ridiculous to criticise Placid.

But yeah, they certainly seem to be a much improved squad from last year.
No disgrace going down go a very strong Pommie team.

Just watching the replay now Stewart must have be on fire in the trials because he is very average in this England game think it's time to bring in Burton

Stewart didn't play. He's in on reputation. $ says he'll sign for the Sea Eagles shortly ..

Hmmm
That's how he plays.
I thought he went ok.He seems to have a very narrow band.
There is little between his best and worst.
IMHO

Still watching the replay does this ref know in rugby you can't pass the ball forward? Crazy stuff so many forward passes.

Horwitz came on for 10 minutes and threw two cut 2 balls that would have got a NFL crowd on its feet !

I thought the English gameplan for the U20's was very good. It looked like they'd stolen Cheika's notes. Very aggressive at the breakdown, big, hard, fast forwards and a backline prepared to throw it around a lot. Let's just hope that by the time those guys get to 23-24 that the dopey English coaches have bashed this out of them. Otherwise the 2019 WC might get a bit ugly.

Think you have got two hookers out now. Have to say, I don't think I have ever seen a NZ team at U20s or first team handle as badly as they did today. SA put fierce pressure on but NZ just kept dropping the ball.

I am sympathetic to this view but this is an age group I do not know much about - apart from some of last year's oz schools players - do you say that there are better players still playing or that the old school tie drives kids away earlier in their development or something else?

I had not looked at the format of this comp before.
Can someone help me?
Does missing a bonus point from the England game cost Australia?
Ireland won't lose to Fiji so we will finish 3rd of the 3rd placed teams - making us 9th seed meaning if we win Match 20 the highest we can finish is 9th. Who are we likely to draw for that game?
So 10th beckons? (which no doubt stuffs our draw for 2015).
NZ cannot finish higher than 5th unless there is a boil over in a pool match.
Or have i missed something?
