Stormers team will look next year:
Taute, Habana, JdJ, JdV, Aplon, Jankies, Duvenhage, Vermeulen, Kolisi, Burger, Bekker, Etsebet, Malherbe, Liebenberg, Ginga

See Paarl! I told you that Jantjies would go to the Stormers!

Funny thing is, all the players are going everywhere BUT the Kings. So the Stomers, Bulls, Sharks and Cheetahs get stronger at the expense of the Lions, while the Kings do..umm, help me out here Paarl, who exactly will be playing for the Kings?

I think I know who will be playing the Lions for a spot in super rugby in 2014..
Most of the Lion players will return to play in the relegation/promotion match against the Kings and CC rugby for the Lions. At the moment the Lions look like retaining the CC.

Looks like Argentinian scrumnhalf Nicholas Vergallo, Bandise Maku and Hadleigh Parkes will be playing for the Kings next year. Story here.

While it is good to see one of the Argentinians getting a gig in Super Rugby, surely he could have done better than the Kings?

I also thought that the Kings were there to develop talent on the Eastern Cape. Yet they sign an Argentinian and a kiwi.

All 3 would struggle to make most Super rugby 22s... Kings are gunna be woeful.

SANZAR well Aus/NZ should be very concerned about what this means for them. The other 4 SA teams are given a massive advantage now.

It's all politics. They got in because Government wants to see transformation, but because they have only a year to develop, they need quality players now- to win the promotion/relegation match.

Kings arent going to be like any other new team that has joined the Super Rugby gig (ie: lose but be somewhat competitive). They are going to concede cricket scores.

Then the SA conf wont be too dissimilar to the Oz one then?

Been through this before, the Aus conference is the more competitive than the SA one. Try again.

Competitive for the wooden spoon yeah. While its clear that the Lions won that award, I do see a cluster of Oz Flags loitering at the bottom of the table.

SA has been the shittiest conference on average since the comp started in 96.

It's the refs, you see, it's all a stitch up. It's a conspiracy to stop them winning everything. If we didn't secretly meet to hamstring them at every opportunity they'd be so dominant there's be no point in the rest of us turning up.

You don't seem to understand, competitiveness based on conference matches. That's where an advantage/disadvantage lies due to uneven amount of games against certain sides. The Rebels outperformed the Lions and Cheetahs in their 1st year when those two were in their 5th year.

If you can't win the cup with that team I want video of you jumping off Table Mountain. With sound.

And you got a proper prop on the bench as well.

I know nothing about the other 2.

Maku is a very bright prospect. He left the Bulls because he wanted to get a starting gig. Had back to back injuries, one a broken leg if I recall correctly.

He would make every Australian Super Rugby match 22 as far as I am concerned. Very good player.

Do you mean Pat Cilliers? I seem to remember reading he had signed for the Stormers. If so, he will jump ahead of Malherbe and start at THP IMO. Malherbe and Kitshoff are both very promising young props but they still have a long way to go and I think Cilliers would be stronger than Malherbe at this stage. Thoughts?

Didnt Maku start a number of games for the Lions (before he moved to the Bulls)

Bright prospects move up in the ranks rather quickly, and Maku has been around for at least 3/4 seasons now?

Malherbe is doing great at the moment. He and Ginga makes a massive differense to WP scrum compare to Carstens and Brokkie. I dont know Cilliers that well. Would rather have take Jacobie back. WP also have JC Kritzinger. Just when he get back on the pitch he get injured. Also a strong fatty and can pack down both sides.

maku came from the Brutes to the lions? WP may get Callie back also. He and Malherbe packed down for Paarl Boishaai on their day.

Maku moved from Bulls to Lions and was the starting hooker at the Lions (including in their Currie Cup triumph last year IIRC) until he got injured. He got injured in pre-season or soon after this year and missed the Lions' Super Rugby Campaign.

How many top hookers can you name in their early 20's?

Ahh, sorry. My bad, I guess I get caught up when people start rating SA hookers that dont have warships named after them. Sure he hasnt had alot of gametime, but surely within 5 seasons you would be identified as a bright prospect (starting or otherwise) and be given a starting gig if you were indeed a bright prospect.

Not saying that he couldnt develop into a test player (I'm not counting the freebie he got in 2010) but waiting his turn for 4 years to get regular game time says it all.

Not sure where you're going with that one, but your point seems to be that he cannot be a bright prospect if he hasn't turned up on your radar. Fair enough. I'll side with Blue on this one. I reckon he's a good signing for the Kings but he's obviously going there for game time rather than to win games!

All I am saying is: Great players get fast tracked.

Im sure our international friends could add to my list quite easily.

@ 26 Maku is 2 years Bismarks junior. Maku has been in the SA Rugby system (SARU's Radar) since 2006. He is neither a Bright prospect, nor is he still considered a young player IMO.

But thats just my opinion, as harsh as it may sound (to the player). But his time to shine is now, so hopefully he can prove me wrong.
