Just wanted to wish all players attending the final selection camp in Canberra all the best and good luck with the selections.

Australian Under-20 Selection Camp
Australian Under-20 coaches Adrian Thompson and Sean Hedger have named their squad for the final IRB Junior World Championship selection camp, which runs from Tuesday 9 until Sunday 14 April 2013 at the Australian Institute of Sport in Canberra.

The camp features 50 players from across the country, as Thompson and his coaches look to finalise their 28-man squad for the Under-20 tournament in France this June.

Head coach Thompson said the camp will provide him with a more in-depth look at the players before the Under-20 squad is announced next week.

Any definites amongst this group. Would say Curtis Browning has to be a shoe in. Also maybe
Maile Ngauamo. Anyone know who comes into the group from the Super XV franchises and know much about the lads from NSW, WA.

Surprised Reiser from UQ didn't make it considering he made the team last year and is still eligible.

Also the fullback from UQ whose name escapes me but was instrumental in their victory over sunnybank on the weekend.

I fear the selectors may have again gone for colts players over regular first graders, but with that being said there is a fair share of regular first graders in the squad.

I have to say I don't like the current separation of 7's from super rugby, club rugby and U20's.

In the past the 7's team churned out future super rugby players, but nowadays they seem to be picking project players out of the club comps who are probably not going to make it at super rugby and hoping they come good at 7's.

It's not a bad idea in theory, especially considering the way 7's is heading; but the ARU has taken away a development pathway without adding a new one. I fear it will leave us short new players for a couple of season until the new 3rd tier comes to fruition.

While he is listed under Manly, Oliver Hoskins is actually originally from the Cottesloe club in WA. So the count should be;

NSW (26)
QLD (18)
WA (4)

Interesting to note that there are no players from any of the Western Sydney clubs, Eastwood, Parramatta, or Penrith.

And only one from the Gordon club, who claim to have the largest junior numbers in the nation.

I am sure there is a rational explanation. Could anybody help out?

Recruitment plain and simple. While I do think it's odd there's no representatives from Eastwood, it is common for other clubs to actively recruit players from Western Sydney at the colts level.

wamberal, Gordon only have one colts team this year. Their woes are well documented on the Colts thread, as has the recovery plan. It may take some time to bear fruit. As you point out it is rather surprising that their Colts numbers have dropped off so significantly.

Dave Beat, I just summarised exactly what was on the ARU web site. Disappointing that the Intern who does all the work for ARU can't get the basics right.

Do better ACT.

Although in saying that you Tom Cusack is on 7s duty, and even we did have a national draft he would go very, very early.

Hold up, so is Cusack eligible but not picked due to 7's duty? I assume Sean McMahon is in the same boat?

I wonder if F'Sautia, Cusack and McMahon will come into the fold for the final squad?

Maybe Malouf as well although I am unsure if he is still eligible.
