Watching the Highlanders vs Crusaders at the moment. From the perspective of a Reds fan, it is good to see the Highlanders getting pummeled. However, god help any team that has to play the Crusaders in the finals if they keep up this type of form.

With a month break from Super rugby coming up though, teams that are really starting to fire (Shorks, Reds and Crusaders spring to mind) risk losing their momentum when super rugby resumes. Gee I love this comp! You really never know what you are going to get.
I have been watching the SA schedule. A week after S15 our non Boks go into CC rugby. No player will survive a full SA rugby season. You may love this comp , I still hate this format.

This is the difference between SANZ and A. We don't really need these extra "derbies" because we have them in our national competitions. The extended super rugby makes for a very long season. If they stick with the conference set up (which they will) at least make it a straight shooting table. Why should the 3rd placed "conference winner" get a leg up with a home qualifying final? (assuming a higher points total below).

Eh, because it's a conference system and the conference winner has to be rewarded?

Look like the conferense winners is nearly settled.

Chiefs have probably the most difficult matches left in the NZ one. They can afford one loss and have a good 7 point lead on the Saders. The Stormers double point win on the weekend opened a 5 point lead over the Bulls, the Sharks loss left them 9 points adrift. Both these teams have to play another and the Sharks cant afford a loss. Brumbies have 4 points on the Reds and cant afford to drop one now.

Top 8 matches that will knock teams out

June 2012
29 Highlanders v Chiefs Forsyth Barr Stadium, Dunedin 09:35
30 Crusaders v Hurricanes AMI Stadium, Christchurch 09:35

July 2012
6 Chiefs v Crusaders Waikato Stadium, Hamilton 09:35
6 Reds v Highlanders Suncorp Stadium, Brisbane 11:40
6 Sharks v Vodacom Bulls Mr Price Kings Park, Durban 19:10
13 Hurricanes v Chiefs Westpac Stadium, Wellington 09:35

Its going to be a hell of a chase for that top 6 places.

Results could easily still conspire to leave the Reds stuck in 7th even if they win their last 3 matches.

I think they'll need to play great rugby and land bonus point wins at least twice to make sure of 6th.

The_Brown_Hornet

John Eales (66)
I reckon the Reds are a big chance to make the six if they win their last three. The Canes have a tough draw and Highlanders too (they and the Reds will knock the other out, as Paarl pointed out). The Sharks have a massive game against the Bulls coming up, which will probably decide their season.

PaarlBok

Rod McCall (65)
The Sharks and Bulls have a lot of Bok players. That may hurt them at the final stage. Dunno about the Reds but I would think they have a good chance to make the top 6.

There is a distinct possibility that the Crusaders could miss the finals if they lose to the Chiefs. For that to happen though, the Reds would need to win both of their remaining matches, and the Hurricanes would have to dust the Chiefs in the final round.

You are right there Paarl. It is going to be a hell of a ride. Time to stock up on the grog and strap myself in!

Myself cant see the top 6 change in the last week and predict

Brumbies vs Sharks and Crusaders vs Brutes next weekend. The Brumbies will probably lose against the Sharks at home and a Chiefs vs Sharks and Stormers vs Saders semi final.

And as things stand all Australian teams but the Brumbies have a negative points difference. In total the Australian conference has notched up 31 wins compared to NZ's 43 and SA's 39. Really would be tragic if the Reds made the finals as they don't deserve to be there.

Happy

Alex Ross (28)
Actually the Brumbies only need 1 log point to secure 3rd spot and top the Australian Conference. That is, if the Reds win with a bonus point against the Waratahs to make them equal on 58.
