I am surprised with your halves choices there. I would of thought Frisby is more of a complete player (seen as a Halfback/Utility back) and his selection in the Reds 22 justifies this.

I would be surprised if Ollie Hoskins and Gary Neugebauer from the Force academy weren't in strong consideration for 3 and 1. Both played for the Aus U19s against England. Hopefully both have improved since last year having spent another season around some of the props we've had in the senior side.

Both poor scrummagers. But doesntt seem to be an issue in these selections or at super 15 level for that matter. England, NZ and SA are going to have great scrums as evidenced by some young front rowers playing S15 and from the England U18s last year. If we are seriously trying to win this thing Anthony Eddie needs to have a good think about the front row.

What on earth - after Gilly's game on Saturday there is NO WAY known that the Reds will let him go. Besides I really believe that he will not be eligible!!!!!

super rugby is in recess for the period of the U20 tournament. Unless you think Gill will be with the Wallabies, he should be avaialble

I'm sure that there is a cut off point as to how much super rugby you can play then before becoming ineligible to be selected in the U20 squad.
Don't get me wrong, he is a massive asset. I believe having Gill in the sqaud very important, I am just not holding much hope as to his being there.

Apart from timani I reckon thats a pretty decent attemp. I would have McMahon at 6 and Browning at 8, probably have frisby starting as well.

Crook was talked up a lot as a schoolboy and hasn't done anything of note since leaving school so his wing spot could probably go to someone else. Mitch Felsman who plays for brothers is 20 this year I think and he's pretty damn quick so he might be in with a shot.

That's not how it works.

The U20's squad has priority, but if a player has played x amount of Super Rugby games than that team can excercise the option to retain them.

However, with the break Gill should be at the U20s this year.

The back-row is the most contentious area as it stands. McMahon and Browning can both play 6/8. Will Miller is another blindside candidate but I'd be wary about picking another player straight out of school. Killingworth and Cusack are other excellent options but as both are specialist opensides I don't think they'll be there alongside Gill. I don't know much about Wells but he's another candidate for #8.

Crook played U19's last year and there's not a whole lot of other standout options. Holland, Clark and Mosese are all brilliant fullbacks with plenty of elite experience but whether or not they'd succeed out wide is up for debate. Sautia for me, is a definite. He's another first-year school leaver but he's had 4 years of Aus Schools experience and is now in the Reds ETS. The next best specialist winger is probably Felsman, but Alex Northam and Blake Murray both played U19's last year so are likely to be considered.

I agree with Lee Grant. Picking too many players fresh out of school could be a big mistake. But with freaks like Browning, Sautia, McMahon, Ala'alatoa, Faalavaau, Seuteni, Ngauamo etc. it's very hard not to pick them.

Browning will be included as a loose head (where he is currently trialling for Uni in Brisbane, and with the Academy in Brisbane)

Agree. Browning is being considered as a LHP. But given that he has never played it before (at any level) Anthony Eddie and Nucifora must be kidding themselves. A continuation of Australia's infatuation with playing backrowers as props.

Too true. We've sent some of our finest young forwards over in the last two or three years, only to have them schooled by hard heads from NZ. That is why the likes of Beauchamp, Stolberg, and anyone else who has had regular game tame in a Prems comp, should be given serious consideration.

I've seen Stolberg just a couple of times in Sydney but agree with your assessment of him on that small sample. I have a high regard for Cummins as a 2nd rower but after seeing him play against the Qld Academy boys (including Stolberg) in February he didn't compare very well.

Stolberg is one of those players who slipped between the cracks of Schools rugby because of injury but he seems ready to make his mark now.

At 201cms and 115kgs Michael appeared to have a bit of grunt about him too but I will have to see him a few more times before I sign off on that.

Was Stolberg one of the locks that started against Sydney Academy? If so they were both very good and outplayed their Sydney opponents. I thought Coleman was better than Cummins too.

Looks like the ARU are pushing fairly hard for the Rebels to pick up Ollie Hoskins to cover their prop crisis. Might rule him out of the JWC.
