Um, can someone who saw it please tell me what the fuck happened?

Did anyone make a tackle? The Lions appeared to have scored 6 tries in the last 15 minutes - holy snapping duck shit!

I saw it. Bascially the chiefs scored at will and were 40 points ahead at one stage. They then proceeded to let the Lions score at will. Lions had no defense out wide. Chiefs were horrible at the set piece and defending the maul.

last 16 minutes = Bruce made a tackle putting someone on their back, assistant ref put his flag out - told the ref it was a spear tackle (clearly wasn't) and that Kahui made the tackle (clearly didn't) which resulted in the wrong person being given a yellow card, and the lions took advantge.

Yeah, actually the chiefs got 3 yellows in this match. 2 for spear tackles, one for collapsing a maul.

It was a bizarre game - there was a period in the second half where it seemed like the Lions were kicking off and then just running straight back behind their posts for the Chiefs' conversions.

There weren't many missed tackles (just missed opportunities) as no one even bothered to attempt them.

The ref played quite long advantage, and let a lot of things go, especially in the second half. For that reason there seemed to be less set pieces and lots of open, broken play.

Must have been a directive from SANZAR after the woeful try tally in round 1 that any semblance of defensive behaviour be thoroughly punished. Last conversion stuffed my margin too! :lmao:

137 points scored in Chiefs win over Lions

Did anyoe see this game? Was it a case of defence optional or was the attack of both teams too good?

stats from rugbystats.com.au:

Lions - 26 tackles, 29 missed tackles

Chiefs - 64 tackles, 25 missed tackles

perhaps that paints a picture

Well if you like tries, this one is for you.

As for rugby, if that is what you like to watch, this one is not for you.

The lions take two bonus points out of this one. At least thats something mildly pleasing for their supporters.

It look more like netball, this game. The biggest disappointment from a Lions point of view is that they have the personel to get their defense sorted out. DM just pick Walter Venter in 12 , you idiot!

Game was a nightmare. I missed the first 30 minutes which is where I think the only rugby was actually played.

The 40 point burst from the chief was a joke to watch, all they had to do was pass it and they would score. I had left for breakfast for the lions comeback, but glad I missed it.

Don't like missed tackle stats - they're horribly misleading.

The game was more like touch football. Skills in passing and support play were actually quite good. The reason that there were so many points is that the players were often bamboozled by what was going on around them, and there were a hell of a lot of tap kicks taken at penalty time. Both teams went out there with the express desire to run their opponents off their feet, and generally speaking it worked for both of them at different times.

I thought Jonker was being a bit biased toward the end though, giving the Lions no penalty at a ruck after the bell where one of their players was lying right on the ball, but that may just have been "new ruck" interpretations, or NRI as I'm calling it from here on in (patent pending).

The Chiefs' discipline had waned to such a degree that they deserved almost to lose.

Willem Stolz stood out for being a complete numpty on the night - stupid elbows and hitting people late off the ball

Yep he is a bit of a rough one, remember him throwing Matfields scrum cap in the Newlands crowd when he played for the Stormers. Dont look like if his French journey had settled him at all.
