Fullback: 74 [78]* by CE Latham (199:cool:
Wing: 85 [101]** by DI Campese (1982-1996)
Centre: 69 [80] *** by TJ Horan (1989-2000)
Flyhalf: 90 [102]**** by SJ Larkham (1996-2007)
Scrumhalf: 139 by GM Gregan (1994-2007)
No. 8: 58 [60]° by RTS (Roger Tuivasa-Sheck) Kefu (1997-2003)

Lock: 84 [86]°° by JA Eales (1991-2001)
Prop: 64 by A Baxter (2003-)
Hooker: 72 by JA Paul (1998-2006)
Who out of the current players or uncapped Wallabies has the potential to reach that magical number of 100 Caps. Cannot ever see any player getting close to Roff.

Personally cannot ever see any player surpassing Mr Gregan at 139.
Fullback/Wing - maybe AAC (Adam Ashley-Cooper) very very likely JOC (James O'Connor), Beal unlikely
Wing: maybe Digby
Centre: Nah
Flyhalf: Nah
8. Nah
7. Maybe Poey but talent breathing down hard on him, even now
6. Nah
4/5 likely Horwill, maybe Simmons
1. 3. maybe Robbo, likely Slipper - certainly both will overtake Baxter at 64
2. Moore very very likely: TPN very unlikely

Guys,

The OP says that the data is accurate as at February 2009.

Many megalitres of water under the bridge since then.

You are probably all correct

What2040 wanted to know:

Who was going to be (or has the potential to be) the next players to get the 100 Tests?

Will anyone beat Joe Roff's record of 62 consecutive tests?

Will any current or future Men In Gold beat George Gregans record of 139 test caps?

100 test potential - Will Genia (favourite), David Pocock (outsider), Stephen Moore (outsider)

Until recently you might have thought that Genia and pocock were chances at hitting the most consecutive, but recent injuries and the fact they are likely to be rested at least once a year will stop that.

I would have Morahan as a smokey to get to Latham's number at fullback.

One thing of note is that every one on the list except Baxter played at the same time! 'the golden age'.

Hard to compare athletes from different times/era.

For most if not all of Campos career, you played the full 80 minutes unless you were injured, if you were in the starting 15.

Nowdays since "tactical substitutions" have been allowed, a cap is awarded if a player takes the field at the 75th minute mark. While the game is now professional and the collisions are bigger and meaner with better prepared athletes playing, 15 "modern" minutes to earn a "Cap" is different to 80 minutes in the 1984 game vs the Darkness.

agree, so let's look at starts. A first XV of caps by position (ie player with the most caps in that position)

15 Chris Latham - 63 caps at fullback (also had 5 at wing)
14 David Campese - 84 at wing (also 16 at fullback)
13 Dan Herbert - 65
12 Tim Horan - 69 at centre (2 at wing, 9 at flyhalf)
11 Joe Roff - 65 at wing (7 at fullback)
10 Steve Larkham - 82 at flyhalf (10 at fullback, 2 at centre)
9 George Gregan - 129 at scrumhalf
8 Toutuai Kefu - 52 caps at 8
7 George Smith - 80 caps at flanker (8 at 8)
6 David Wilson - 75 at flanker
5 John Eales - 83 caps at lock (2 at 8)
4 Nathan Sharpe - 70 caps at lock
3 Ewen McKenzie - 50 caps at prop
2 Phil Kearns - 65 caps at hooker
1 Al Baxter - 44 caps at prop (Bill Young with 42 if you want a specialised LHP)

No one should ever beat Gregan's record. It is a ridiculous record. He played at least 20 tests more than he should have.
