World Rugby Rankings - spoiler alert

The Argentina/Scotland one confuses me too - firstly the largest movement is capped at +/- 2.00, they are both 2.01. Secondly, the teams were ranked 7th and 8th respectively, so regardless of the 15 point threshold I’m not sure why the result would deserve the maximum fluctuation (c.f. the...

You can probably add ‘slipped to 4th in World Rankings’ to that list. I’m pretty sure thats a first, if not at least a rarity.

Australia v England: Match II @ Suncorp 7.55pm AEST, 09/07

I didn’t scrutinise it during the game, that’s definitely illegal. Will be interesting to see if World Rugby say anything about it - doubt it though given a home nation was the beneficiary

    Refereeing decisions

Possibly but it was a genuine intercept attempt and that’s where the downward force criteria would come in, and referral to the TMO for a common sense interpretation. He only led with one arm because it was above his head and he’s clearly trying to catch it, not knock it down. P

Australia v England: Match II @ Suncorp 7.55pm AEST, 09/07

Maybe but I don’t think calls like that should even go to the TMO, call it as they see it. TMO should be reserved for cardworthy offences and uncertainty around tries (no more than 2 phases back) only.

    Refereeing decisions

If they made that, and/or downward force as the criteria it would be a vast improvement. On that basis Hill (assuming he was onside) & Perese were fine and Smith gets carded. I think most would be ok with that.

Australia v England: Match II @ Suncorp 7.55pm AEST, 09/07

I don’t think Hooper is the best ever Wallabies captain but I wouldn’t classify him as poor either. He is definitely a good leader. If you are going to suggest someone else be captain then it needs to be an at least 70 minute player. In the current setup that’s one of the locks, Valetini...

    Refereeing decisions

I understand the intent of the knock down rule, and in its proper context it’s fine. Problem is that even at full speed it’s pretty easy to spot the difference between a deliberate knock down and a fumbled intercept attempt yet they go upstairs every fucking time and almost always rule it as...

Calls to drop hooper after ONE uncharacteristic mediocre game. I suspect he will call time after RWC2023 but expect him to wear nothing but the 7 jersey when fit up until then, barring a return from injury or something.

    Wallabies 2023

It should be cited. They had the opportunity to review it at the ground but quietly passed over it, so I doubt anything will come of it.

Don’t disagree with any of that, not sure re Hanigan. If he is out and Holloway still is then Smith or Uru. Hodge is already with the main squad, I expect he’ll start at 15, assuming Petaia is out.

World Rugby Rankings - spoiler alert

Wasn’t sure where I could post this without spoiling things for those who want to catch up on some overnight games. So, thought a dedicated thread on the topic could be worthwhile. Check this out!

Australia v England: Match II @ Suncorp 7.55pm AEST, 09/07

Entertaining game, we put in a good comeback but at the end of the day a 19 point start was too much of an obstacle. The injuries didn’t help, and the home nations officiating crew were a joke, particularly the muppet in the TMO box. I’m not sure if they’ll bother for just one game but if they...
