    Southern Inland Rugby 2012

ROUND ONE Albury v Temora @ Murray Field Tough first up game for Temora and probably their longest road trip of the year. I think this game will help the Tuskers out as it will give them a good first hit out against quality opposition and then an opportunity to bond together for the trip...

SIRU 2012 PREVIEW... 2012 has the potential to be a really close season – there have been some significant player and coaching movements which should see a much more competitive playing field across the board. I don't see Aggies and Tahs being the powerhouses that they have been for the past few...

    Brumbies 2013

No way Neil, Ben Hand is lucky to have a Super Rugby training contract. I'm sure he's a great fella and I hope he makes some great coin in Europe, but he does not cut the mustard in the tight five.

No loss really. I wish him all the best.

    Southern Inland Rugby 2012

My mail says ex-CSU player/coach Dave "Wal" Stuart will fill the breach. Sad news for the Steamers as Don has put a lot of effort into the club over the years, not only in the Seniors, but with the Juniors as well.

2012 S15 All things Referee thread

I agree with what you are saying there Paarl, that's why I purposely used the term "generally" before describing the NH and SH styles of play. I just feel that the SH refs have a better feel for the game and better empathy with the players as opposed to the officious nature of the NH refs...

    Southern Inland Rugby 2012

SIRU Pre Season Tournament Wrap Up Saturday saw 9 teams head out to Kapooka to have one last trot before the season starts on the 14th April. Wagga City, Cootamundra, Griffith, Deniliquin, Albury, Waratahs, CSU, RARC and Leeton all turned up on the day to some magnificent fields and a sunny...

2012 S15 All things Referee thread

I agree totally SFR. I'm not a fan of the NH refs, although Romain Polite is a good ref. I think it's a cultural thing. When you look at the mindset of the SH teams, they generally want to play expansive 15 man rugby as opposed to the attitude of the NH teams who generally want to strangle the...

2012 S15 All things Referee thread

I saw this the other day on the SA referees website, it seems Paddy has been promoted to selector of the sevens in preparation for the Olypmics. Also, Bryce Lawrence has been dropped from the A Panel. I think this means he won't be doing any more test, but not sure about Super Rugby. I...

    Southern Inland Rugby 2012

Did anyone get over to the Leeton 10's on the weekend? Another Tahs v City final, also interesting to note that both East's (ACT) teams were bundled out by Tahs. City have shown some good pre-season form so far, I'm looking forward to seeing them run around in the SIRU 15 a side tournament...

I think this one is a hangover from the good old days when lineouts were a lot scrappier than they are now.

I agree Hawko, I like the way Vinny referees. It's a shame he doesn't get more game time.

    Waerea-Hargreaves to the Tahs?

I agree Braveheart, he comes across as a bit of a wanker really.

    Rugby Coaching

Well, that is the point of SmartRugby... it is purely an insurance exercise. Absolute minimum requirement for all players/coaches/referees/managers involved in the game.

John I Dent Cup and ACT competition - 2012

Don't forget the Development Staff there either FTS. Vikings Development Budget rivals the Brumbies Community Rugby budget.

    Rugby Coaching

From my knowledge of the Australian Coaching structure (I am a Level II Coach) this body shape should form a core skill for all players. It was about 2005 when I did my Level II but it was a core technique taught to all coaches through the SmartRugby, Level I and Level II Courses. I recently...

John I Dent Cup and ACT competition - 2012

I knew about that one Pablo - Trendy was a good coach, it's interesting how the landscape changes over time. I remember Wayne Southwell thought that the GF was going to go into extra time in 2002 or 2003 (can't remember which one exactly) so he put the Wests First Grade side through a 20...

John I Dent Cup and ACT competition - 2012

That's potentially three new first grade players to the Vikes, how do they do it? From memory, Wayne Southwell coached at Wests in the early 2000's (and did a good job too), there has obviously been some movement at the clubs over the past few years.
