    Where to for Super Rugby?

only that doing the same thing over & over again yet expecting a different results is.

    Where to for Super Rugby?

It is an over simplification of the problem, but the Top down nature of the game here is part of the reason the game is so unprepared to change. that money pit is going to certain people, and none of those people are keen on making themselves possibly redundant. Sadly I can only see things...

    Where to for Super Rugby?

Agree with the comparison regards the NRC, you cannot use this as a comparison for a domestic competition. And yet the same people are utterly convinced that a competition structure that is used successfully in about 95% of the worlds sporting leagues will somehow never work for Rugby Union here.

    Where to for Super Rugby?

Sorry I think a massive part of the problem facing the game is due to Super rugby.

    Where to for Super Rugby?

Yes those demographic changes have hurt rugby, but it is the system that has allowed that to happen. That system is Super rugby. Why change when the gravy train cheque is forever in the post. Yes there has been some headway in the last couple of years purely because the whole thing is...

    Where to for Super Rugby?

And we need to be asking exactly who is benefiting from Super rugby here, when quite clearly it is at the cost of a supporter base.

    Where to for Super Rugby?

This is a complex problem and in my view one of the biggest problems a domestic comp faces is that it wouldn't create interest from overseas TV markets which is a substantial part of what Super Rugby has going for it. I think this highlights the catch 22 situation faced by the code here, that...

    Where to for Super Rugby?

I agree with this, we do not need to replace any of the existing franchises, they remain under a domestic structure and you build from this, like a second Sydney team, one important aspect would be to try as best to attract private investment and also accepting that to begin with and for a long...

    Where to for Super Rugby?

I think ultimately a continuation of Super rugby simply means the game here cannot move forward. Going it alone means accepting the realities of far lesser money and many of the top players moving overseas, but what is the alternative a slow decline to irrelevance. Right now every penny and...

    Where to for Super Rugby?

I agree with this point. RA are desperate for the Aussie teams to be a bit more competitive, what this does is let them re-sign for another 4 years, and the slow decline will continue, ultimately this is all about the top level getting there weekly pay-checks not about the game growing in Australia.

    Where to for Super Rugby?

That is the way i would like to see the game go, I truly believe part of the problem is just having 4 or what was 5 teams. The money is an issue, not a small one but you have to present to the market a competition the Australian market knows and wants. Maybe an extension of the NRC, use that...

    Where to for Super Rugby?

Yep that's it, the rusted on fans will watch, but how does the game grow, how does it attract new fans. The top down nature of the game here prevents it from spreading to a larger audience.

    Where to for Super Rugby?

I have to agree with that, but I still think that one of the issues is lack interest or caring regards this competition. You compare this to the nature of AFL and NRL where people appear to have a vested interest, that tribalism factor. But Super rugby seems to be such a big yawn for...

    Where to for Super Rugby?

Geez, it was a hard watch after the Kiwi game, but one thing i can't get my head around is the plastic nature of the competition. The Kiwis grow up with the game, you look at the atmosphere of Dunedin (indoor stadium helps), but you can't help the feeling there going through the motions in...

READ MY POST I NEVER SAID IT WILL HAPPEN OVERNIGHT. " A simple change of format isn't going to suddenly make viewer numbers double". As i said maybe in 10/15 years time if the proper structure is put in place then the game has the opportunity to grow and potentially earn a greater share of...

    Rugby TV ratings 2015

So you think that rugby has no chance to go to the top level here, i find it strange that everyone thinks rugby is going gangbusters globally, but then happily use every excuse under the sun to justify why it should remain a niche sport in Australia. Yes AFL/NRL have strong and stable revenue...

    Rugby TV ratings 2015

The Wallabies have averaged a world ranking of 2 or 3 for the last 20 years, they have won 2 world cups, play the All Blacks the no 1 ranked team in the world on avg 3 times a year. Yet they according to you they are not successful, so i take it then the only option we have for growth is to be...

    Rugby TV ratings 2015

The million $ question. Look i don't have the answers but i honestly think Australian rugby has to face up to some realities. Super rugby from day one was always a step to far and suited NZ/SA far more. We never built the support for the code outside of its traditional strengths of Private...

    Rugby TV ratings 2015

Yes but we have to start somewhere. Look Super rugby has had 20 years to build the code up here, and yet you say rugby is not big enough here. So after 20 years with access to the worlds best players and quality competition we are basically just going round in circles. Look at the A league...
