Don't get me started on Referees Thumper! My three little pet distractions with Rugby (particularly schoolboy Rugby) are: 1) Referees judgements/general decisions; like "we wanted a free flowing game" (BS) 2) Crotch binding in scrums (who was the wacko that changed that?!!?!) & 3) Rucking...

    QLD GPS Rugby 2015

Well Rowing does not have the history that Rugby has. Remember not all members of GPS have been involved in Rowing from the start. And the number of competitors/participants are not as great as Rugby. I think Rugby is the premier GPS sport in terms of participation, number of events, history...

Your probably right. I haven't seen anyone from NSW, ACT, VIC or anywhere else except Brisbane GPS.

Hugh are they the QUEENSLAND (VICTORIAN Branch contingent)? It so hard to tell because I have not seen any of them ;(. I suppose we will have to have to wait for Nationals ;).

That's a pretty good attempt. I don't know of non GPS (Qld) players, but of the GPS (Qld) guys watch for either #6 S Wallis (ACGS) and K Meni (NC), # 10 L Mosley (NC) and #15 G Robertson (IGS). Liam Mosley can play # 12 as well. J Farrell (BBC) has been playing well and solid, but is not a given...

Maybe Rowing should be in term 4? Not a lot of Rugby players are able to transition into Rowing and vice versa. Mainly Second Rower's from what I can see. Another issue is that Rugby should take precedence. I cannot think of another sport that has as much participation in Qld GPS than Rugby...

Hmmm Hugh I have a hunch we both may not be correct. I think you may actually find that whilst the Gentleman in question first came to Australia he was in QUEENSLAND first, then tried his luck (which was very good) in the less fashionable NSW, before returning to his preferred nest...

Too right it's everywhere!! Good one Hugh. Got me singing now! There is room for you Hugh in QUEENSLAND, your most welcome.

I have no idea why QLD GPS Rugby has a Term 3 deal. I would doubt whether the QSRU would be happy. I'm not. All I can say is that it leaves our guys at a disadvantage for the Nationals as we have little game time or game fitness. And when we do have some game time etc. it all seems so rushed...

I accept your bet and raise you a shekel (or a beer if I ever meet you in person!). I'm on the Queenslander!

Don't think winning or losing is important for a captain....Don't you think leading is fairly important??? Actually I think losing gives you more of an edge as you would have a fair bit of humility.

Re Calvin Pritchard: Word is he may be pulling out. So one has to watch-out what they "assume" from the previous year. I think a lot will depend on the trail form then what happened last year. ;)

    School sporting scholarships/recruitment

I have no problems with scholarships. As long as the young man uses it to further himself in general terms, not just Rugby, I think it is good. I find this particularly gratifying especially when the family do not have the means to provide this "experience" for their son. Most of the young men I...

There are a few #6 around. Specialists I don't know if we can call them that, but there are some good quality flankers around. But you know as well as I, every boy at some stage of his rugby career "wants to be a back rower". So we will wait and see!

Doesn't look like GPS2 will v AIC1, pity. But you will get GPS1 v 2 which could be interesting.

Churchie v Nudgee trial My take. Nudgee controlled the match and were not overly "stressed" (except for the 3-4 minor injuries). Both teams (I think) treated this as more than a trial, it was more an opportunity to gain a physiological advantage for the season! Churchie dominated the scrum...

Churchie v Nudgee trial Yes Really! The word is that the Nudgee 4, 5, 11, 12 & 13 did not play. I think there is still some consideration/pondering for 1 & 2 as well. So it could be 6 not 5!
