Crusaders v Reds, Round 11, 6 May 2016, AMI Stadium, Christchurch

I suspect our chances of maintaining that unbeaten record went from very slim to non-existent at the exact moment Kerevi's hand cracked. :( I'm guessing Laloifi won't be at 14 this week. Bit much to expect him marking Nadolo who is not far off twice his weight!

2016 Under-20 Rugby World Championships - Manchester UK

Interesting how much that was like pretty much any Super Rugby game between an Aussie and Kiwi team. And indeed like most Tests. Aussies hammering away at the line and not really getting anywhere, showing heart but lacking in skills, until the inevitable mistake results in a turnover, some...

    Reds 2016

"Three to four weeks" according to the Reds' Facebook page, with surgery on Tuesday (presumably for pins). It amazes me how quickly they can treat a broken bone these days - I guess that's what top quality sports medicine can do. For a schoolkid it's presumably still the traditional six weeks in...

    Reds 2016

When a 108kg centre is crying into his jersey and being sympathetically comforted by a prop... no, it doesn't look good at all. The tears of a man who knows his Wallaby dreams have just gone up in smoke. :( Poor bugger. Best case scenario it's just a sprain but it really looked like a break...

    Force v Bulls

It's difficult, for me at least, to put my finger on exactly what's wrong with the Force this year as opposed to previous years. I mean, they've never done amazingly well, but most years they have at least been the bogey side that if you go into a match thinking it'll be an easy one, they'll...

Reds v Cheetahs - Super Rugby Round 10

I'm glad the Prince gets another start. The Cheetahs are the ideal opponents for him if he can find some space, with their leaky defence. Leave him half a gap and he'll show them a clean pair of heels. Might be worth a punt on him bagging a try!

    Reds 2016

Reminds me of that episode of the Simpsons where Nelson is playing gridiron and deliberately runs out of his way to smash every player on his way to the endzone. :) Although to be fair the 14 was standing between him and the posts and Timu had every reason to place the ball as close as...

Stormers vs Reds @ Newlands round 9

I expect both Kerevi and Hunt to be called up to the extended Wallaby squad. I think Cheika will want to get a look at how they perform under his coaching. Whether they will get a bench spot I don't know. Hunt in particular probably needs to overcome Beale who is in good form. If Beale is...

Stormers vs Reds @ Newlands round 9

I thought all the backs from 11 to 15 had excellent games. They just have so much more spring in their step. McIntyre is improving but still has a long way to go, but at least he's starting to get some good inside balls happening. Laloifi unfortunately never got a chance to use his pace but I...

Stormers vs Reds @ Newlands round 9

Major issues with the reffing that I had were mainly around the amount of time the ref allowed before making a call being inconsistent between Stormers and Reds. - Reds scrum was dominant in the first 50, no penalties awarded whatsoever except to the Stormers, even when the Stormers crumbled...

Stormers vs Reds @ Newlands round 9

The Saffa refereeing was definitely its usual shitty biased standard. The home side keeps getting away with things the Reds would have been penalised for, the Reds get pinged for things at the drop of a hat. So many times the Stormers were slowing down the ball at the ruck in the last 10 minutes...

Stormers vs Reds @ Newlands round 9

It's another classic Reds fade in the last 20 minutes. They haven't looked in the game since they started bringing on the bench.

Stormers vs Reds @ Newlands round 9

He must have decent pace for a forward though, cause he never looked like getting run down!

Stormers vs Reds @ Newlands round 9

Very unselfish from Browning there, he could have made that himself I reckon! Hunt's first try in Super Rugby, took him a while...

Stormers vs Reds @ Newlands round 9

Laloifi showing his pace down the sideline. They just need to put him into space and nobody will catch him.

    Reds 2016

I'm glad to see the old ginger doing well for the Sunwolves. Unfortunately for Quirk the Reds were oversupplied with backrow stocks last year and he was competing with Gill, Thomson, Browning, Robinson and Schatz for a spot, and if I remember right was injured for a fair bit of the season too...

One-eyed optimism, that's what I like to see!

Super Rugby Matches without a match thread

Awesome game! I had a bet on the Sunwolves by 6+ and it paid $11 on Sportsbet, so on those odds it was a massive upset. Congrats Sunwolves! Sunwolves are my second team now too (sorry Highlanders - but as defending champs I think you can do without me). I love their attacking style, wish the...

    Reds 2016

Yeah I know it's an exit strategy in that situation. Question is whether it's the right exit strategy for the Reds team to be the standard go-to tactic. Certainly it's a lot better strategy when it's consistently contestable, which it hasn't been for most of the last two seasons.
