If anyone interpreted my earlier comment as meaning that the individual Knox players were lacking passion and commitment, that's not what I was getting at. For me, passion/commitment/killer instinct at a "team" level is more than what the individuals are doing, it's about the team's structural...

Outstanding performance from Barker today - the discipline, effort and structure they had in their game was top notch. No doubt the best team on the day won. If the Knox comeback had gone all the way for a victory I don't think it would have been a fair result (and I'm a Knox supporter). I...

Australian Schoolboys & National Championships 2017

33-19 Qld 1 over NSW 2. Several strong performances for Qld, in particular Kibble the flanker. For NSW not too many stood out other than Angus Bell up front who was tireless.

Having played against those teams in '80 and '81, that as good as Barker were in '80, I reckon Waverley were even better in '81 - with the Burkes and Kava (amongst others) back.

Agreed Rod - I'd also call out Hardaker as one of the best. His strength in defense was outstanding. Another point was that the reserves who came on after their great game in the 2nds maintained the pressure. It says a lot for the depth of CAS this year. I actually think it could have been an...

One other thing I think worth bringing up was the standard of medical support at the Knox game yesterday. In the 2nds a player went down with what looked like a collarbone issue, but there was no one coming to his aid. Finally a very young first aid kid came over but he didn't seem to fill...

Yep, he was out there and definitely one of Knox's best on the day.

Knox certainly beaten by the better team yesterday, they just didn't seem to have the extra spark they had over the past two weeks. Missing Frear and Collins in the forwards may have affected things a little, but not enough to change the result. It was certainly interesting to see the Knox scrum...

Pretty much agree with Axel's take on the game. My only concern from a Knox perspective was the ease at which the View backs created overlaps. I reckon if they'd spun it wide every time it would have been interesting. Yes, Knox's scrambling defense was good, but I do think there will be a bit of...

Sorry, should have mentioned Bosch as well - another strong game.

Knox over Cranbrook 36 - 15. Always in control although Cranbrook really kept the pressure on throughout. First I've seen of Kemeny and thought he was superb. Searle not so much - I thought Woodcock was stronger today. Knox made a several of their usual kind of mistakes - pushing the extra...

My 2c on the the Knox/Waverley game… I thought it was a great game of rugby. Yep, two very different halves, but a great game nonetheless. Particularly impressive was the spirit in which the game was played. These teams don’t like each other for sure, but I felt they played with respect for...

Certainly didn't expect to see Knox so outplayed - great performance from Waverly in all aspects of the first half. As stated earlier, Knox really rattled.

I've heard the Cutrone injury is a double whammy: dislocated ankle and a broken leg. Poor bloke - best wishes for a solid recovery.

My 2c on the Knox v Joeys game... Joeys showed the power of a great, well-disciplined, structured, and highly skilled "team". They were simply too good and too sharp. In comparison Knox looked slow, unstructured, sloppy and simply lacked the teamwork to keep them in the game. The only players...

Not entirely certain but probably was: Stocks did start the season at 10, but after the injury to Armstrong early on in the season he moved to the centres. With Armstrong back he has gone to the wing.

Agreed, but that said Bosch has been having a bit of an off year (by his standards) with goal kicking so far - Woodcock and Stenning (when fit) have been taking most of the kicks with great success. I'm sure he'll regain form - I guess Knox has been lucky to have others available in the meantime.

To my eyes Swinton is playing a much more traditional tight five 2nd rowers game than last year and is very heavily involved in rucks and mauls, whereas often Margin and Begg are playing wider in attack. I think the 2nd row is the right spot for him in the CAS teams, but agree that that may have...

Excellent summary - absolutely how I saw the game too. It's interesting how the "strange options" in the Barker (ignored the wet weather and seemed to be trying to play a dry weather game until sense prevailed) and Trinity games affected the team, whereas the performance against Waverley was...
