    The Number Eight Situation.

If Palu is shot, then I think the best backrow would be Elsom, Pocock, Hodgson. Unfortunately with Horwill injured the only viable 2nd row is Sharpe and Mumm, otherwise I would consider Mumm at 6. Higgy's going to be in the squad I reckon, but I can't see him starting. Hopefully he'll come on...

    Wallaby Squad Predictions 2010!

Mitchell - insipid in the tackle and shit kicker. Why the fuck does Hickey designate him defensive kicker over Beale, Halangahu and Barnes?

The run home: the comp gets serious

Analysing the games remaining I reckon the best we can hope for is 1 Oz team in the semi's at 3rd or 4th, two more just missing at 5th to 7th and the Force to win a few more and lift to about 9th. At least that's showing fairly even distribution of talent (considering Force injuries this season).

The run home: the comp gets serious

As it stands: Bulls 33 Saders 29 Tahs 29 (Bye to come) Stormers 29 Brumbies 26 Reds ? (21 > 26) Chiefs 21 Blues 20 Chiefs and Blues not convincing but NOT dead yet as they have easier runs home. Looking at the draw, I'm now predicting: 1. Bulls on about 52-55 2/3. Stormers / Brumbies on about...

    Wallaby Squad Predictions 2010!

Baxter, Burgess and Mitchell again confirmed tonight why they should be nowhere near a Wallaby jumper. Douglas, Horne and Beale continue to impress.

The run home: the comp gets serious

I suspect the Blues have blown their season today but their draw makes it still possible for them (Force/Sharks/Cheetahs/Lions/CHIEFS). But the Stormers performance has been highly impressive and dispells any doubts for me that they're serious title threats. Go Tahs! Looking at the Crusaders...

The run home: the comp gets serious

I was just going to write how the Blues are coming back, but they're surely shot now at 30-14 with 20 left. Christ on a bike these Blues are dangerous but unpredictable. If the Stormers get a bonus point here, they'll be a major threat for a top2 finish.

    Force v Highlanders, Queenstown Stadium

Agreed JOC (James O'Connor) is one strong little bugger. He almost always shrugs off the first defender when attacking the line. Not his best goal kicking but he's been very consistent this season. However it's his kicking game (best we've had since Latho) and his ability to inject himself. He's got amazing...

    Force v Highlanders, Queenstown Stadium

Justin Turner - where did he come from? Fast tidy pass, a bit of toe and some good support play. Yet another young bloke getting the opportunity and making an impact - love it. Well played Force, they played the 80 and made the most of what they had. Outmuscled at the breakdown though which...

It'll never happen (at professioanl level).

    Wallaby Squad Predictions 2010!

No doubts Dingo will back experience, though he's shown a liking for Cooper, so I expect he's a shoe-in for 10 now, unless something dramatic happens. But the pressure for new blood will be strong if we lose by more than a score. Only one win from 6 last season, 12 months from a RWC with youth...

    Wallaby Squad Predictions 2010!

I'm hoping (as I'm sure Dingo is) that Barnes turns his form around. He's the current VC and the defensive glue of the backline. But I would definately have A Finger in the squad and possibly on bench putting heat on Barnes and Gits. A 10/12 of Cooper/Gits is asking for the Boks and Blacks to...

    Wallaby Squad Predictions 2010!

Nodds, the lineout last year was our weak point and we are without one of our two recognised intl locks this year. So firstly I want to see a young lock blooded a year out from the RWC, without leaving us too exposed. To have fresh backrow legs in tight 3N tests is desirable. Hodgson is...

    Wallaby Squad Predictions 2010!

I just read a post on Fox Sports suggesting Gits to Wallaby fullback, which allows Cooper to be protected defensively by Barnes at IC and AAC (Adam Ashley-Cooper) at outside, with Ioane and Hynes on the wings. Whilst I had JOC (James O'Connor) as preferred FB (and I actually think JOC (James O'Connor) has a better kicking game in play and off the...

    Another blow for the Rebels!

I have real mixed emotions about this news. Great for the Brumbies succession planning and potentially for Wallaby depth development in key positions. However I'm now in Melbourne and I think securing these two talented S14 starters and fringe Wallabies, both with Melbourne roots, would have...

    Beyond Belief

Why on earth would the ARU have scrapped the Aus A program? With no ARC and no Wallaby tour matches, they're expecting young blokes who've played a season or two or Super 14 and a sprinkling of club games to step up to full international level and play 7 tests a year against the two best sides...
