NRC Rnd 4: NSW Country v Canberra Vikings

That's a fairly useful looking Vikings lineup. Can't see NSW Country doing much based on their matches so far whereas Canberra have looked good.

Restructuring of the Academy set up

I read that this morning. Are the academies currently operating? As per the NRC/pathways discussion on the Roar that you have been commenting on, there are challenges with cotton wooling some of these young players and only playing them against their age group vs the 18+ year olds playing...

    The Wallabies Thread

Cheika strikes me as someone who would take very badly to a 'senior advisor' or any opposing viewpoint really. Lineout throwing should be compulsory extra training time for hookers like goal kicking is (I assume) for kickers.

    Reds 2019

Is that article correct - did Mcintyre really play 34 games for the Reds?

    RC4 - Australia v Argentina

Apparently the capacity of Robina stadium is 27000. From the tv shots the crowd looked pretty sparse. Was there any announcement of the actual numbers?

    Global Rapid Rugby

Agreed, some of the businesses who have aligned themselves with sporting clubs that end up having player scandals have to try to extricate their brand from the club. It must be hard for a sporting organisation or a player who is offered money by a company as a sponsor to turn it down if they...

    Global Rapid Rugby

Not at all, one is a real business (mining) and one (FP) was a scam. Probably not the best comparison I agree, but the point I was attempting (not very well) to make was that sporting organisations need to be careful about who they align with.

    Global Rapid Rugby

FF (Folau Fainga'a), bear in mind that RA has to consider the interests of a lot of different stakeholders around the country, as much as people like to paint them as being an Eastern suburbs of Sydney cartel. While Minderoo are doing some good things for WA rugby, and I certainly want rugby to thrive...

    The Rugby Championship 2018

"In the midfield LB (Anton Lienert-Brown) comes in for Jack (Goodhue). Jack has had four big games for a young player, just want to give him a breather," said All Blacks coach Steve Hansen. Naholo has been rested as well.

    Reds 2019

Changing tack on this (not wanting to talk about boards) - does anyone know what the plans are from RA/QRU to actually develop the game outside of GPS schools? From my experience with junior rugby in Brisbane, there are a lot of kids who go to state primary schools playing the game - some of...

Australia vs South Africa 8th September

How do you change that? I don't understand why players at this level wouldn't be switched on - it's like we used to see at the Reds where there were no chasers for kicks. I'm interested in what would need to be done to keep players switched on at all times.

    QPR 7's Series 2018

This is a great initiative, glad that they have got it going. The clubs will certainly benefit from use of their ground over this period and the people it brings in. Hopefully it allows some new 7s talent to emerge as well.

    The Wallabies Thread

Being a selector Cheika could have steered Skelton towards following the advice of the experts in those roles who he seemed to be ignoring. 'Eat properly or you're dropped from the team' is motivation, continually getting selected just reinforces the 'I don't need to listen to these people'...

    The Wallabies Thread

But why has it taken him so log to realise what's needed and why was he bale to become a Wallaby without realising it? It paints a poor picture of the expectations in Australia if he needed to go to the UK to realise eating better might be a good thing.

    The Wallabies Thread

Backup players for a test team should be playing in that position for their Super Rugby team, unless they're a utility on the bench covering a few positions. So what 10's playing Super Rugby are there? To'omua is a quality player but I think others have pointed out that he has been playing 12 in England most of...

    The Wallabies Thread

Is there some kind of restriction on what positions imports can be used for? It seems very short sighted that such a key position of 10 would be allowed to have so many imports in it. I know that Hawera was a short turnaround recruit when CLL became sick and I assume that he was being looked...

    QLD TEAMS 2018

Ready has gone to Southland in NZ so definitely won't be in NRC.

    Reds 2019

Good point - you would think that if he was happy there he'd be looking to get a longer term contract and the QRU would want to lock him in.

    Melbourne Rising 2018

From an Irish site: Toolan has also been gaining coaching experience throughout his time with the Rebels, working with the franchise’s U20 team and in the NRC with the Rising. The 2018 Super Rugby season also saw Toolan’s role with the Rebels expanding to take on responsibility for their kicking...

    Reds 2019

I think Scrubber's point is that if you are going to go all 'high behavioural standards' with the players why not expect the same from the mature adult staff as well? It sends a mixed message to the playing group. TT I think was brought in. or at least announced while Stiles was still there...
