I remember that one - penalised Barker 7. i was closer to it than your angle. Barker 7 was behind last feet on his side (ie not coming from an offside position) and the ball had come out the back of the ruck so looked fair to me. I'm not a ref so happy to be corrected, but if the ball has rolled...

I thought Waverley forwards had been to the McCaw school - repeatedly hands in the ruck in the blind side of the referee, very effective disrupting Barker recycle. Very frustrating as a spectator seeing it clearly right in front of us

A few thoughts on the Barker Waverley match (I'd already written it when the thread was suspended; not sure it meets the suggested guidelines re War and Peace; but here it is anyway:) Barker 22 (Tries: Smerdon, Ellwood-Hall, Jones; Jones goal + penalty, Smerdon goal) Waverley 15 (Tries: Powter...

Looks like the weather could be a big factor for the Barker Waverley clash. Forecast is heavy rain for Thursday & Friday with showers for Saturday. Barker oval cricket pitch area turns into a heavy bog pretty easily. Comments so far seem to give Waverley the edge in the forwards and Barker in...

Must also compliment St Aloysius on the ground. The playing surface was superb. A few of the Barker boys said it was the best surface they have played on this year (which includes Knox No1 which does not have a cricket pitch!). The Aloys boys were well presented, well behaved, and cheered their...

If anything it is the opposite way around – coach has them play a very structured game in the 1st half and them more freedom in the 2nd. In fact the structure looks very similar throughout the game - it’s just that in the second half an exhausted and sometimes depleted opposition give them more...

Barker also won the 2nds 37-3 and 3rds 65-0 (ref called full time with 8 minutes left) Thought the 1sts might have been 63-12 (but did lose track a bit) Aloys 1sts put up a good fight in the first half (19-7 at half time). Their number 13 scored a good try stepping several Barker defenders...

Wow...this public school boy had no idea how deep the GPS/CAS hostility was... Been watching CAS for a few years now and really enjoy the rugby, more entertaining than Super15. Also fun watching my sons and friends work their way through the age groups. Agree the scholarship/ import/ arms race...

Any thoughts on why some schools seem to have a lot more injuries than others?

What about your flanker - Widders-Lee. Strong game against Barker and showed a lot of pace to make a covering tackle when Davis looked set to score (having gotten past Stals again)....

I think think the player/ team argument presents a false dichotomy. Rugby is a team game. To be a great player you need to play well in a team. If a player shows individual brilliance (dare i say selfishness) but cannot work with his team mates then his value to the team is greatly diminished...

Should also have added that in 2 games Barker have scored 74 points whilst Knox have managed 11 points, yet you include 3 Knox backs to 1 from Barker

Barker scored 5 tries against Knox (all by the backs; Davis 2 tries opposing Stals)) and 6 tries against Cranbrook (Davis 2 more tries) Against Knox Barker consistently made huge ground on Stals side and were never threatened. Concede Paek covered a lot in defence and was dangerous in attack...

Stunning game by Barker 1sts. 13-3 at half time, Barker pulled way in the second half. All barker tries scored by the backs, with (i think) 4 from their own half. Combination of Jones and Davis was awe inspiring. Stoltz (12) and Dove (13) had strong games. Smerdon at 10 dangerous as usual -...

Knox have brought in the professional coach, new support staff, and have been training for months - reckon they are the ones to watch. Round 1 Knox v Barker at Knox (on Knox gala day) will be a great atmosphere. Barker will only have been back for a few days after (probably) being beaten up on a...

Barker have only 2 of the forwards returning (a completely new tight 5) so will be tough going for them. Backline looks great but can't score without the ball. Jones is a superstar
