    I had a similar thought

    Wallabies 2024

I rarely have a crack at a young bloke doing his best, as others have said - they don't pick themselves. If they've got a poor attitude or carry on like pork chops that's a bit different obviously.

    U16/U19 Competition 2023

I'm a fan of this format and it gets good prospects into higher level footy (presumably with pro style S&C) sooner. It's also direct alignment between the club/school systems and a higher grade.

It's a balance for sure. Playing up can be tough for some of these lads, but equally it's not much chop having boys who are 20-30kgs heavier than the smaller kids smashing through everyone either. I think we've all seen it in the junior grades.

I'm happy for McKellar to stay where he is for now, it will be good experience for him.

As I understand it, in NZ has age/weight bands. That seems like a suitable compromise in a collision sport where the rate of physical maturation varies so much in adolescents.

Just did a brief search and it appears the answer is yes

Mate there were plenty of us who hated the idea of EJ (Eddie Jones) as coach again right from the word go. I was one of them. That aside, yes the article confirms all of our suspicions. Anyway, moving forward now...

Does not NZ have weight for age?

I wonder if weight for age in the junior ranks would help with this? It might shake people from the belief that just picking the big kids is best and maybe force these boys to work more on their skills.

That was what stood out for me watching the boys at the RWC. They looked like they didn't even know where they should be standing in open play. What a goat rodeo. I guess the good news is that it probably can't get any worse.

I've seen some pretty dysfunctional crap in my career but this is definitely among the worst. Leave Australia Eddie and never return. I feel bad for the players. Some of them are going to need an arm around them after this debacle.

Funny how some people fail upwards isn't it
  14. The_Brown_Hornet

Wales v Barbarians Millennium Stadium, Cardiff

A mate who is pretty plugged into the elite coaching setup in England says that Hooper and EJ (Eddie Jones) have barely spoken to each other this week. I can't imagine why.

Rather than fighting the last war, wouldn't it make more sense to focus on the future?

But Barbs, how will we hang all our hopes and opprobrium on people if we don't have a single target? More seriously, yes agreed. When we've been successful, we've had good coaches in the club and provincial set ups and a well aligned coaching team in the national side. Bernie or McKellar...

Yep, he looks like a goose. And that's to say nothing of his involvement with Magellan, another failed enterprise (it's personal for me, I have some of my super invested with them!)

Rear Window was (maybe still is) one of the best things in Australian journalism. The skewering of pompous and self-important public figures in this country was relentless and right over the target.

Yeah about 150 points off it.
  20. The_Brown_Hornet

Absolutely certifiable to get back involved, but his comments were measured and cogent.
