Australian Schoolboys & National Championships 2013

HJ - I assume this is the opens. Does the under 16 schoolboys follow the same format?

NSW CCC 2013 (U16 and Opens)

The team was announced to the boys straight after the two day trial last week. The only players that I know who got in were a few Harold Matts Players (fullback for the Sharks and 5/8 second rower from the rabbits).

Then the squad will then be separated into CHS Sky and CHS Royal for games against CCC and AICES on the 2nd June at Foreshaw Park, Sylvania Waters. A final squad of 23 will then be selected. School sporting scholarships/recruitment

You couldn't possibly compare a GPS rugby program to a Sports High School - could you! Thank you for offer but I will pass this time. One needs to be in tough with reality!

    School sporting scholarships/recruitment

That's al a bit high brow. If a kid is talented then good luck to him if he gets a scholarship. The same development pathway is not available at State Schools. In fact past 16 there is no development pathway.

    NSW CHS Rugby 2013

The squad will be published tomorrow in one or both of the SMH and telegraph. Two teams will be selected (35 players). The final squad of 23 will be determined on the 2nd June with games against CCC and AICES at Southern Districts.

The beginning of the end - AFL has stormed the ramparts

There are two synthetic surfaces in the Shire. The latest technology has Been installed at Endeavour Sports High. I have played soccer on it and the technology has come along way from the surfaces played on in London 20 yrs ago. The bouce of the ball is natural and the surface has quite a lot...

The beginning of the end - AFL has stormed the ramparts

Yes, the GM from Southern Districts was heavily involved and the CCC team did win the trials. However, didn't they only pick four of the winning CCC team to go on to the Championship against the other schools (GPS CAS etc). Politics again.

The beginning of the end - AFL has stormed the ramparts

Quickhands, With regard to your post #44 - indeed it was (as much information as my boy would give me) a trial for The Sydney Swans development academy. Two instructors (apparently one was an ex player) went through technical sessions - kicking, jumping, marking with three boys. The boys...

The beginning of the end - AFL has stormed the ramparts

The AFL are holding a trial at my boys school today (CCC school in the Sutherland Shire). Not sure of the details but only a handful of Boys have been selected to trial. The school is traditionally a rugby league school.

Selection politics and bias, Gold Squads unfairness etc.

Our junior had to miss today's session at Scott's. The doctor convinced his mother that the blister on his heel needed 4 days rest without shoes. Sometimes you just have to go along with the good doctors advice. The intensity of the last few sessions has increased and all the boys appear to...

Bu Burraneer U15's got 1 into the NGS and 5 into the JGP. 2 had invites and the other four trailed to get in.

Selection politics and bias, Gold Squads unfairness etc.

My boy has two trials organised for Harold Matts. Both on Saturday with the first on December 15th. This works well with the JGP. He hopes to attend all sessions. The JGP is really the only legitimate pathway to keep my boy (CCC) playing rugby union. Next years U16 village club rugby scene will...

Selection politics and bias, Gold Squads unfairness etc.

The posts are beginning to resemble something out of Star Wars: "The dark side of the Force is a prominent moral, philosophical, metaphorical and psychic concept in the Star Wars universe, which George Lucas intends as a metaphor for the universal human temptation towards cruelty and inhumanity...

Sounds interesting. I know of a few lads you got scholarships and commenced in this term.

Didn't say he was picked to train with the U17 (implying he was exclusively picked) just that he was one of three who trained with the U17. Anyway they appeared to all cycle through the various drills although my lad didn't get a chance to do the drill wearing the padded shirts. They looked...

Selection politics and bias, Gold Squads unfairness etc.

Perfect start to the JGP at Scott's. Fantastic weather to match the fantastic location. My lad who is the U16s was one of three who trained with the U17s. Good structured program broken into catch pass drills, tackling drills and small sided games. As per a previous post this program is...

Selection politics and bias, Gold Squads unfairness etc.

As we are just about to get in the car to head the junior gold program at Scott's the French are winning 10 - 3 with 20 minutes gone. It is probably time to break down the private school barriers to entry. There is more junior talent in Minto than Mosman - it just needs to be developed. We...

I like the essays, rants and quips. You have to spend a bit of time to decipher the message but hey are generally thought provoking.
