Certainly agree. It's no coincidence that the best years of Eddie's career after he first left Australia (2011-2015 w Japan, 2016-2019 w England) were whilst he had Borthwick & Wisemantel besides him, and they stayed their for a long time. I've said this before but so much of Eddie's performance...

Regardless, you'd assume the review of the campaign will involve an assessment of the player-coach relationship and whether it is tenable long-term. So the truth will out one way or another.

Yeah can certainly lose confidence. I just think that people go "oh he's lost the dressing room, the players hate him, that's why we lost" etc etc. When reality is more complex than that. I also just don't think that's what's occurred here. For me, the super narrative of the Wallabies World Cup...

    Wallabies 2024

I'll be honest, "losing the dressing room" is my least favourite saying in any sport. It is pretty trite analysis that in my experience very rarely happens and is a substitute for not being arsed to do proper analysis. I don't know how you get that impression from a performance, there are many...

Yeah certainly. He's a perfect bench back on a 5-3 split.

    Wallabies 2024

Agreed. Would like to see Kellaway moved to wing (his best position IMO) and Jorgensen come in at 15 assuming he continues his trajectory with a full Super season under his belt. I also wouldn't be surprised if Pietsch gets a crack. He reminds me a lot (and I mean a lot) of Jack Nowell. And...

    Wallabies 2024

To be clear - I don't think we'll be anywhere near favourites. Not even close. But we are never even close anyway. Just feel that playing a team losing their greatest 2R combination of all time, and a generational 9-10-15 is going to give us a good a chance as any. Even if that chance is small.

    Wallabies 2024

Ironically given our 2023 form, I don't think we'll get many better chances than next year to win a Bledisloe. The Kiwis will be moving on from Smith, Mo'unga and Barrett. I rate Roigard a lot, but think he's pretty green at test level. I also don't think DMac is on the level of their other ABs...

    League Targets

Been some pretty shoddy reporting on this whole saga (not referencing this article by Christy). The 1.6 million figure was utter garbage that did nothing but pile on to Aus Rugby.

I wouldn't be surprised if Lynagh is in the mix next year. Eddie has always always had players he sticks by, even if the fans don't like it - suspect Donaldson will be that player. Re gameplan, I broadly didn't have issues with the attacking side of things. Not saying it was amazing of course...

    Rugby World Cup Matches OTA

If a NH team is to win I really hope it isn't Ireland. Respect to their Union for getting their programs firing. But it doesn't sit right to me that a team can stuff their 23 with players from Aus, NZ and SA to take themselves to the top level. I bear no grudges to the players for taking that...

It certainly does require more than one individual. But without an adult in the room, who can wrangle them all together I don't see how they manage to pull themselves into shape as a collective.

The immediate problem facing any structural reform and its implementation is the federal nature of Australian Rugby. We can sit and handwave about whether it's good or bad, but its what we have so we've got to crack on within that federal system. All the member unions, it seems, are on board...

Greater chance of Rugby AU getting their act in order then meaningful pokie reform I'd say...

    League Targets

Look, I take your points. Regarding the media coverage and the way Sua'ali'i was marketed + the timing of Crichton, I agree it is offensive. And shows how out of touch McLennan in particular is. The point I'm making is that I think it is a coherent strategy to pursue a few top tier league...

    Wallabies 2024

This is a key point for me. For better or for worse, Eddie has always been a coach who will coach to his contract. When England Rugby kept giving him extensions post 2019 with the sole ambition of winning in 2023, I think many of his decisions (cycling through lots of players, not having to keep...

    League Targets

Once again, its not 1.6 million, its 800k a year. That sounds far more reasonable, so the press don't run with that headline. I struggle to understand how the two are mutually exclusive, and in fact there's a good argument they might be tied together. If we poured all the limited funds we have...

Moved to centre in Year 12. Easiest transition would be to centre from the 2R where he plays in League.

    Australian Rugby / RA

Think the timing is a bit odd from a bloke (McLennan) whose from a marketing background. But I'd say this is good news. It's an 800k deal, not 1.6m which I'd say is pretty reasonable for an Origin/Australian representative. With Kerevi on the way out due to age, 12 is a real problem position...

I don't think its ridiculous either, although not for that reason. My tinfoil take - and I don't believe this in the cold light of day - is that he was trying to show the powers that be that he still has options open if they don't push through centralisation/other structural changes in...
