    Breaking down the breakdown

From the GGR Smith & Pocock highlights reel, how would the steals be ruled under the new interpretation. If not for all our benefit, then could I get some help on clarifying the new breakdown rule? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iXLYBa5YIqw 0.18 – Pocock tackles, stays on feet and immediately...

    Pretorius gone

Are the Super 14 clubs allowed to sign players on loan like they do in football? Then Melbourne could sign up a 5/8 then loan him out to Force for the 2010 season. Just a thought.

    Brumbies v Waratahs Trial

LG, I recall you saying that the third and final trial games represent the coaches' run on side. Hangers at 12? No Beale and Horne? What gives?

    Waratahs 2010

I would prefer Horne at 13 and Carter on the bench. I've seen very little talk here on No.9. Is Burgess starting v the Brumbies? Of those who have seen the trial games, what's the consensus so far?

Adam Freier: The beauty of our game is in the contest

I agree with your side note, Canadian. I also enjoy the multi-facet nature of the game, as compared to one dimensional league. It is one of the reasons why mungos sometimes mostly struggle at union due to the higher level of intelligence required to excel at the game. The Footy Show? - I rest my...

Is the move north losing its luster?

The NH would miss the SH players from the H Cup and Top 14 as they bring some good ideas, tend to push the locals to play better and help fill player ranks in a very long season. On the flip side it will be good for the wallabies as more aussie players staying on home soil will increase pressure...

    70 weeks for eye gouging

http://www.smh.com.au/rugby-union/union-news/french-player-banned-for-70-weeks-for-gouging-20100120-mk1z.html Stade Francais prop David Attoub has been hit with a mammoth 70 week-ban from rugby union for eye gouging. The ban, which has been backdated to start on December 18, means the...

    The state of rugby today

My two cents, for what its worth (and from someone will little knowledge of the rugby rule book): - more yellow cards means fewer players on the field thus more gaps and more running rugby, bring it on! Surely that would be an incentive for a team reliant on its forwards to abide by the rules...

    Heineken Cup 2009/10

Stade beat Ulster 29 to 16 in crap weather thus plenty of handling errors and kicks. The game was supposed to be in Belgium but snow forced it back to Paris although near blizzard conditions here did not entice me out to the game. Apparently Dupuy is going to appeal his 6 month suspension.

    Heineken Cup 2009/10

The Julian Dupuy incident was sickening, and the Ayoub one too. I'm a Stade fan and feel really let down by their stupidity. I would expect that Dupuy is out for the rest of the season.

    Kurtley Beale

:kurtley: In the SMH: Another Wallaby to face criminal charge December 16, 2009 FIRST it was Quade Cooper. Now the Australian Rugby Union has been rocked by allegations against another young Test playmaker of tomorrow, Kurtley Beale, whose immediate playing future has been placed in jeopardy...

Is there still a gap between NH & SH rugby?

Is there a gap? Sure is! Almost as big as the one between Quade Cooper's ears. On a player skill level and team success, SH is historically way ahead yet on game attendance and general public interest, as you have pointed out PB, the NH is ahead. Coming from the SH yet living in the NH, this is...

How good or bad was the EOYT?

All the above plus: Positives - Rocky at captain, JOC (James O'Connor) not at fullback, a good A side putting pressure on the starting lineup for their spots, a good balance of representation from all aussie super 14 sides, and beating England. I think there were more positives than negatives. At the start of...

    2nd 5/8th style inside centre

I'm with Seb on this with a playmaking Barnes/Gits 10/12 combo. It keeps the defense guessing. Do they charge the gain line to meet either of them running or passing, or do they sit back for the kick? IMO the problem is not the 10/12 combo, it is the 15. AAC (Adam Ashley-Cooper) is best at 13 so who then for 15 in...

    France Vs New Zealand

Well done to the All Whites. The backline were really on song but I thought Nonu was a bit of a liability. The frog backline just seemed light weight and over awed by the situation.
