    The Wallabies Thread

BH, this is a very interesting issue. It seems to me that many of our kickers in Super Rugby sides elect for more certainty in finding touch at the expense of distance. Very few of our touch finders gain more than 20 - 30 m. Yet from time to time when they strive for distance they will fail to get...

Think Staniforth must have been very unlucky. Hasn't Cheika caught up with him playing for the Tahs next year?;)

    Where to for Super Rugby?

Dan, exactly what do you mean by this statement? Are you suggesting the NZ players would be subject to additional training workloads? Given the current criticism of the lack of fitness in Aus Super Rugby teams, that would arguably be a good thing if it happened, but really I think it is pie in the sky...

BH, from memory I think Quade's best efforts at test level have been with Matt To'omua at 12. Do you consider Matt to be a playmaker when he plays at 12? I think he is more of the Pat McCabe ilk at 12 where his strength in direct running and defense were his main attributes.

Roach for combination 2/7? Hooper to the centres. Actually, I wouldn't mind Dane Coles in the centres.:)

    Where to for Super Rugby?

The ARU probably do need to review their stance on Aus players playing in NZ and other Super Rugby conferences. The Wallabies could do with likes of Toby Smith and Michael Ala'alatoa being available for selection.

That's a very hard wall you keep banging your noggin against UTR. While I do agree with the sentiment, I can see that there's nothing to be done about it.

^^^^^^^ I don't know BB. Lots of posters here from time to time claim that the difference is only 1%. ;)

    Force 2018

And probably should do. Defense should be looked at as equal in importance to attacking skills or game management etc. If a player is reluctant or is often found out in defense, then his spot should be in jeopardy.

Great write up RC. Agree with Smith in the TOTS at 12. Only had a couple of starts but really made an impact when he did start, especially in the Quarter Final.

Has he learnt to tackle yet? I wouldn't have him in the side until he can be relied on in defense. I am a fan of Hodge at 13.

Not at all BH. It would be in recognition that success on the field relies on more than individual players and experience. We would all have to concede the Brumbies had something going for them that set them a little apart from the other Aus franchises. Maybe combinations? Better individual...

The bolter could be Blake Enever, but I doubt it will happen. I am also beginning to think that Carter, Powell, Kuridrani and Speight might be in trouble if the rumour reported by Merrow has any legs.

Won't be surprised at all if that happens M. Starting to think there might be some disagreements between Cheika and Larkham holding up the naming of the final squad.

Anyone know when the selected Brumbies' players will be named? The remainder of the squad was named the Sunday morning after the last round iirc, but it's now pushing 40 hours after the QF and not yet a murmur.

    NRC onwards and upwards

Darcy Swain. Falalei Sione and Andrew Muirhead will likely have very strong involvements for the Vikings. Uelese at the Rising will definitely be one of the stars. Edit : Also hoping for some strong game time from Valetini.

Super Rugby 2017: matches not involving Australian teams

Is that not the vice versa situation you were envisaging?

    The Wallabies Thread

I think 6 out of 10 or 11 should be the minimum we demand, but I expect it will be fewer than that. We have Buckleys in the three NZ tests, very minimal chance v SA in SA and more than likely lose three of the tests v Argentina (2), SA at home, Wales and Scotland. That would result in 7 losses...

Super Rugby 2017: matches not involving Australian teams

I think a couple of years back, the Brumbies won the quarter final at home followed by a win over the Stormers (?) in SA the next before going down in the last quarter to the Chiefs in Hamilton. Memory could be playing tricks though - maybe there were no quarters then.
