Channel 9 continues the tradition of absymal free to air rugby coverage...

I think the MMM coverage will be synced to Foxtel from now on for all there games. Well, they are now for their Monday league game call, so I can't see why they wouldn't be for their other calls as well.

    Waratahs 2012

I think I said it last year, but if Peterson gets over his injury I think he will leap frog Douglas in the locking stakes at the Tahs sometime in 2012. Anyway, will Vickerman still be there after 2012? Wouldn't be surprised if either Mumm or Vickerman goes after 2012, leaving the remaining 4...

RWC 2011 - Odd shaped balls

Hmmm, Magne played at 7, and packed on right, right? Betsen was usually 6, and on the left? I guess....right? Unless it's on the left, right?

What does a 7 "do" this week

Last digression, but how often in union do fetchers do a one on one strip? I can't recall one. Anyway, I still believe a fetcher is invaluable because of the damage they do to the opposition's ruck ball. Look at the way McCaw magically ends up on the other side nearly every time, as an...

What does a 7 "do" this week

A fetcher is useless in league. A fetcher scraps for the ball in the ruck, slows down opposition ball, is basically a royal pest. A fetcher is basically a master of the ruck, and league doesn't have rucks as play stops with the tackle. The closest thing league has is guys like Dallas Johnson...

    Tom Donnelly now a Crusader

You have to praise the Crusaders recruiting system, though. They just always seem to roll out the quality replacements or young talent, and more often than not they perform well.

    The Friday Quiz

I thought that for a second, then remembered the birthdate: 1976 - way to old for SNK. If I was trolling you Scarfie, I'd also say that Stcherbina was too good a player, as well. ... Stcherbina was too good a player.

    Thankyou Chris Hickey

Lyons wasn't a huge asset to the Tahs by any stretch, especially compared to other players they had previously who they had lost, like Burke, etc. Hewat was a much more important player to the Tahs than Lyons ever was. As you can probably tell, Lyons annoyed me - he was big, lazy and not one...

    Don't mind my avatar, personally.

    Best test for Australia?

That's OK, he will only need to run 4 metres to score the next four as well.

    Playing 13 under Deans

I took more from it that A. Finger has the best distribution skills of the 13s in Aus rugby, which I'd agree with. He has a canny knack of throwing the last pass for a try. A. Finger is definitely well down on the list of damaging runners at 13, though, which I doubt few would argue with. It...

    Dan Vickerman

That's a little revisionist and harsh on Vickerman, an underage SA rep who excelled first for the Brumbies.

    Rebels 2012

King is an interesting one. Good start, but the Rebels need those experienced forward leaders to replace Somerville and eventually Delve. My feeling with Chamberlain was that he is an openside, but not an out and out fetcher, as such. Am I wrong?

    The Friday Quiz

Gotta be Hangers, agree with Apostle. edit: So wrong!

    Rebels 2012

Elsom would be a fantastic pick up for the Rebels, assuming they could hold on to him longer term. Not sure if they'd look at Jenkins, with Saffy and Chamberlain already on the books for 7, but Jenkins is proven and with Saffy they'd cover a couple positions. Doubt 3M will ever be seen playing...

    Rebels 2012

So Frieir (or Freier? always get it wrong) is gone? Luke Holmes and Tessman are not the quality of Robinson or Freier, so a new hooker will be needed. So a quality hooker is needed in a season or two after Robinson goes. Weeks and Rodzilla need to stand up in Somerville's absence, Henderson...

    Rebels 2012

Combinations will take a while to form though, but once they do that backline will look great. The big question mark is the forwards. Somerville is the biggest loss, I think. The Rebels will need to plan their next recruits carefully - Lipman probably has a year left, and they might be...

    Waratahs 2012

In the backs, though, overall I think the Tahs are a loss for next year, as Beale is irreplaceable, especially with the role he played. Definitely the strength will be the pack (outside of the question mark over 7) - the Tahs will have perhaps the best front row in the comp, if TPN stays...

    All Black World Cup Squad

Have to agree about Donnelly, looked potentially to be a solid test lock but ruined by injury. I am wondering what the Kiwis think about Woodcock. I used to rate him very highly, but think he's struggled last season and this season, and he seems to keep picking up these niggling injuries. His...

    All Black World Cup Squad

Saying that the locks may be a weakness, I reckon the strength of the ABs will be the backrow of McCaw, Kaino and Read, and the midfield of Carter, Nonu/SBW, Smith. Both units would probably be the strongest in the tournament (with Juan Smith being out).
