    The Official Shield Thread.

Ok. Highlanders stupid train of thought. GAGR is a great community, and doing this shield/cup/trophy on its own would still be a very good thing to do. However, the trophy is about the rugby community as a whole as well, and to go on our own feels somewhat insular to me. Doing crowdfunding...

Got a couple of ideas, but I need to get drunk then sober up before I know if they're reasonable or not. I'm definitely in for $25-$100 depending om the final cost though.

OzCrowd is a local one, and doesn't seem to need physical incentives, certainly a bloke from high school who raised funds for a decathlon in Japan didn't have them. Looking at it, 2.9% flat fees plus credit card fees of 30 cents plus 2.5%. Not too shabby, but I don't know anything else about them.

Both the big ones Indiegogo and Kickstarter support projects in AUD. Indiegogo is 9% total raised, with 5% refunded if the goal is reached for 4% total. Kickstarter is 5% flat. Both have 3% + $0.50 charge on Paypal and Credit card transactions, with Indiegogo having higher foreign currency fees...

Get a kickstarter going or something along those lines, promote it here and elsewhere online. Gold Brigade and such. Get a GAGR rep to present it to the Rising, or the Spirit or City, whoever we decided won it on whatever rules it were to be.

Rebels v Force @ AAMI Park

Phipps had a good season and a little bit, when he first joined us, but then just kept on falling and falling till he decided to go home. Continued to get games because Kingi was constantly injured and Stirzaker was very inexperienced. We brought in Burgess, he buggered off to Sydney. Cheika...

Rebels v Force @ AAMI Park

Backline isn't necessarily unbalanced player wise, but positionally it is. If you rejigged it to look like this: 9. Stirzaker 10. Debreczeni 11. Crawford 12. Harris 13. Inman 14. Shipperly 15. Hegarty It looks much nicer. Unfortunately, TT "knows" that Harris and Inman are best at 15 and 12...

    Melbourne Rising 2015

Good move. AAMI was nice, and probably better for corporates, but vast empty areas of the stadium was too much. Will definitely get to the Quins and Franga games, and will see if I can make an evening of it with a mate down in Geelong, but the Morwell game may be a bit more difficult...

    Shute Shield 2015

Yep. Old as **** club. 1870 something. Quite a lot of internationals. Small place, population about 3 or 4 thousand. 9 or 10 championships since professionalism. Virtually invented Sevens, and host the longest running tournament in history, annual since about 1882 I think, outside the war...

    Rio Olympics

Braid's 50/50 Glasgow/London Scottish. Funny Trajectory. Signed till christmas with Glasgow back in September, Loaned out to the Scottish for Match Fitness, signed with them permanently with a proviso to be loaned back during the 6 Nations. Returned to Glasgow for the 6 Nations, went back to...

    The new Wallaby jersey

Beyond the fact the Fox more or less ends up being the mouthpiece of the ARU, it would be a bit if a conflict of interest for Fox given how heavily they're pushing "the crowd" as a fan forum alternative.

    Shute Shield 2015

Yep, that's the boy. Good lad. Loads of talent, but unfortunately saw him fall into the classic Scottish trap of preferring Monsters and Athletes who can play rugby rather than rugby players who can become athletes or monsters. As I said, ended up being horrible for him, but he did a buttload...

2015 IRB Junior Rugby World Cup - Italy

Unfortunately Lee, I've got a 9.30am exam on Tuesday, then another one on Wednesday, I think I'll barely have time to watch it, let alone write a review. Also got little to no confidence in my own writing. Even in the best of circumstances, I wouldn't want to debut writing a match report with...

2015 IRB Junior Rugby World Cup - Italy

It does happen. http://www.scotsman.com/sport/rugby/latest/sam-chalmers-eyes-comeback-after-doping-ban-1-3782958 Got us to fix stuff up. He's done a lot of IRB anti-doping work, and Lineen set up an SOS (Short or Skinnies) program for 18-23 year olds. Anyway, back on track. If our forwards...

    Shute Shield 2015

Hey guys. Question about Sam Chalmers (Scottish U20 international and son of former Scotland fly half Craig) who was banned for 2 years, which is finishing today. He's taken a year off to come to Sydney, and has been training at Southern Districts throughout the last 6 months of the ban...

Rebels v Force @ AAMI Park

If we take the game lightly, the Force side is more than capable of beating us. But we've got a good starting team that should be capable of winning. There's 8 or so blokes which have their last chance to stake a claim for RWC honours, most of whom are in key positions, and a break even season...

2015 IRB Junior Rugby World Cup - Italy

On attack, he got some balls that were either shovelling the pressure, or created a half break that saw him without the support, he didn't play badly relatively, but he was one of many with poor games. On D, it was quite obvious he hadn't played much there. 13 is the lynchpin in defence, has to...

Rebels v Force @ AAMI Park

Tom Sexton, Ben Whittaker, Tim Metcher, Jed Gillespie, Radike Samo, Bryce Hegarty, Tom Kingston and Telusa Veainu haven't had futures confirmed publicly. Can't see the first 2 staying with 3 hookers on the books already. Metcher will be retained 100%, Gillespie 95%. Can't see Radike going...

2015 IRB Junior Rugby World Cup - Italy

Fabulous. Horrendous result against the Baby Blacks got rid of whatever tiny chance there was for top 4, and the loss to Irish made me worry so hard that we'd be in another relegation scrap. Win gets us into the middle 6, and we come up against a relatively bad you guys.
