Gradual Unfurling of New Wallaby Coaches

Now rolled out in technicolor, and effectively, apart from RD, a new coaching group. At least the ARU has clearly recognised, after 4 years of silverware and RWC chasing, that an entirely new coaching group was needed under Deans:

    Reds v Stormers - Super Rugby Round 9, 2012

Interesting that we have Higgers as well as Horwill now commenting to the media re Reds' chronically soft 2012 defence near their line (from today's Courier Mail):

    Waratahs 2013

Well, ok, Jake White's self-anointed downscaling to S15 seems to be working thus far...but he did win a RWC first...

    Waratahs 2013

WJ, have Bruce's earlier compliments gone to your head and you now feel free to explore the wildest imaginable scenarios? ;-)

Richard Graham to quit the Force and join the Reds

Kiap: may I refer you to the presser when Link discussed 'the announcement'. The clarity around RG's 2013 role in terms of whom precisely was to be the actual, unambiguous 2013 boss of the Reds team was, well, not entirely clear. There was talk of future later work on job descriptions for the...

Waratahs vs Rebels Rnd 9 Super Rugby 2012

This entire 'judiciary' system is laughable, just as you indicate Scotty. Just one example: go back and examine the Digby judgement, IIRC he got a 'base entry point medium' of 6 weeks for the tackle (not as severe as Horne's IMO) then there were all sorts of adjustments up and down, and one week...

    Reds v Stormers - Super Rugby Round 9, 2012

Maybe. But I'd ask for higher standards from Simmonds and Samo and our defensive coaches than to excuse really poor defensive sharpness and intensity on the grounds of AF's absence which we've had to plan around for many weeks...or appoint someone else to play something similar to AF's role.

    Reds v Stormers - Super Rugby Round 9, 2012

AF's absence had zip to do with the obviously poor defense that let in both Stormers' tries (not to detract from their skill). This type of sleepy casualness in defense 5-15 metres out from our goal line has been occurring virtually all season. See Bulls, see Force away, see Tahs away.

Richard Graham to quit the Force and join the Reds

In all my experience of business organisations at leadership level, anytime the 'two bosses model and no one quite knows who's really in charge and different bosses giving off slightly different directions or signals' syndrome arises, it is virtually a guaranteed route to, best case, sub-optimal...

Bulls vs Brumbies Rnd 9 Super Rugby 2012

Clear knock on IMO, and how unfortunate was Speight! Geez, so close to a win for the Brums, superb effort. Pride. Wonderful confidence builder, just like Reds win over Stormers in SA was for us last year.

Bulls vs Brumbies Rnd 9 Super Rugby 2012

5 Brums tries to 2 Bulls at Loftus. FFS that is by any criteria - comparing Brums 2011 to Brums 2012 - an extraordinary achievement of wonderful proportions, irrespective of losing. All Aus rugby fans should shout from the rooftops over one of our teams - coming off a near-death experience...

    Reds v Stormers - Super Rugby Round 9, 2012

27, I guess it all depends on your quantum estimate of 'true supporters' as to 'who cares'. The QRU was de facto bankrupt by end 2009 on the basis of gradually but chronically falling crowd numbers as the Reds piled one bad annual w-l ratio upon another. IIRC, 2009 average home crowds were in...

    Reds v Stormers - Super Rugby Round 9, 2012

Australian Super Rugby conference as of today The competency issues that lie less obviously for the Reds are however most forcibly told in our bonus point count to Rnd 9. Bonus points (highlighted below) are a kind of proxy for relative skill and relative attacking capability, even though they...

Richard Graham to quit the Force and join the Reds

Just a side note: this article seems to confirm - with solid anecdotes from the parties themselves - that the QRU's discussions with RG and vice versa have been on foot for months (highlights mine):

    Reds v Stormers - Super Rugby Round 9, 2012

This is now a genuine concern, you are right to raise it. I felt an awful chill down my spine when in the first half v Stormers the Reds were a distinct recreation of their 2007-8 selves and the quality of rugby they displayed deserved little but a crowd of hyper-loyalists, say 9,000 max. The...

    Reds v Stormers - Super Rugby Round 9, 2012

As of today, the Reds look like a team that, from here on, can only beat Australian teams that they face at Suncorp. Lions at Suncorp and Rebels away may be exceptions, but, on current form, I see few others. For the above not to be true, significant improvements will be required in virtually...

Richard Graham to quit the Force and join the Reds

Sa: I think Ruggo's whole point is that: ffs RG, keep these assessments of 'going to a better/stronger/champs rugby State' etc strictly to yourself, if that's what you think. To say them publicly is patronising and provocative to WA/Force players, as it would be to anyone on a similar receiving...

The laugh was of course that Phipps also got a gig as a 9 back up at the RWC.
