Reds vs Chiefs -Suncorp Stadium 13 May

Morahan must further accelerate his recent improvement, Harris repair his place and hand kicking (the biggest exposure we have), and Davies must not be played (does Link have a soft spot for him, or is he all we have from approved sources?). Higgers: if there's no support for the short pass, go...

Reds vs Crusaders Super Rugby Rd11 2012

Are you hereby suggesting that there are no serious and legitimate criticisms to be made of Lawrence's refereeing competencies, and their impacts upon this game? That somehow his numerous highly debatable penalty calls in an otherwise tight game, should not be assessed, or, if found wanting...

    Reds 2013

And once Harris' goal kicking moves right back to the pack or worse - as sadly it seems to be doing - his talent and relative worth at 12 to me looks like a ranking of 6.5/7 out of 10. Certainly not a 9/10, and we need to be aiming for high skill ranking players and depth in every back position.

4918, I would argue that the Perth v Force game was one that was 'let slip' only in that the Reds' player attitudes, defence, general application, forwards work, handling, etc, virtually all skill areas were at a 2008 Reds' standard at best and were mere gifts to a Force that played quite well...

Reds vs Crusaders Super Rugby Rd11 2012

Reassuring news is just in! Lyndon Bray has assessed Bryce's Sunday performance: "Overall Bryce did a good job." Some "concerns" re "the use of the hand by Crusaders No 1" and "had a word with Bryce and Crusaders about that"...."one area that could have been handled better". Picking up on...

Yep, as did Lucas, remember one superb hit he made on SBW v Cru. SWB looked up and just wondered what happened.

Reds vs Chiefs -Suncorp Stadium 13 May

Yeah Scotty, but as you've observed before, it's the major BP gap between us and the Brums that's really hurting our chance of a come back to win the Aus Conf.: Reds 2, Tahs 6, Brums 7. That is, we could have (just) lived with the losses, if they'd been 'better quality' losses.

Reds vs Chiefs -Suncorp Stadium 13 May

Our fate for the remainder of 2012 will be essentially determined by (a) the ratio relationship of our wins to the Brums and Tahs losses and (b) the BPs gained by all three teams.

Reds vs Chiefs -Suncorp Stadium 13 May

Yes. Moreover Jets it's been consistent and major lapses in the quality of defence that has hurt the 2012 Reds the most of any isolatable category of problem in our matches to date. The game v Force away was appalling, as were, for example, the lazy let-ins of the Stormers' tries. Let's not kid...

    Waratahs Vs Bulls Rnd 12

A mere aside: I have a number of SA business acquaintances and friends and in every case they have contributed very positively to our economy and local community. Inexcusably bloody passionate about their beloved SA rugby teams though ;).

Reds vs Crusaders Super Rugby Rd11 2012

Have been thinking over the on and on again Bryce L debacle being allowed to continue, the inexcusable inconsistency of the SANZAR 'judiciary', the Paddy O'B "apologies" to certain teams only that were never rebuked, the way in which many rugby franchises seem accountable to no one for mediocre...

Gradual Unfurling of New Wallaby Coaches

What with the truncated number of games a winner had to traverse, and the conscious fielding of diluted 'B' teams by the ABs and Saffas for a number of games, the 2011 3N was rather like a Commonwealth Games masked up as an Olympics.

    Waratahs 2012

Poppycock. Do your sentimental loyalties and partisan fan admirations have no objective limits? Returning prematurely - in this manner in the midst of a major competition where higher than normal risk of an injury breakdown can completely wreck a critical match or the team preparation for one...

    Waratahs 2012

WJ, the point above was about 'returning prematurely', whatever the injury.

    Aus conference finals run

Great to be hearing someone of his knowledge talking sense about the squad size needed to compete properly at this level. 40-42 sounds about right to me, with all these players fully integrated into the core systems, S&C routines, training regimes, etc. Our latest ARU directive to further...

    Waratahs 2012

Indeed. One might argue that "returning early" was precisely what did him in (badly) during the RWC, and deprived us of his very capable services in later games. Well, I don't need to say "one might argue" do I, as IIRC Drew said as much himself not long after the RWC.

Gradual Unfurling of New Wallaby Coaches

I have new news from Totality Tony, and it's a beauty, especially to those of us that were uplifted by the 'long game' strategy of Robbie D, apparently stated in 2009, that had us 'developing the Wallabies for the real goal - namely the 2011 RWC.' This masterful play did not end well, but as...

    Aus conference finals run

I tend to agree with all this. Not a perfect analogy, but along the above Gaggeresque lines, remember how NZ went catatonic and the national economy nearly collapsed when DC's groin gave way just pre RWC? Well, the key response from the then ABs was to keep every other asset and mechanism of...

    Aus conference finals run

All these things are possible, BUT: we'll need significantly larger well paid squads, with no caps and quotas and salary restrictions. To permit more games, lower injury risks, attract in more players, and to reduce proven burn out risks for national players that play the whole year. All the...

Rebels vs Crusaders Rnd 12 Super Rugby 2012

    Perhaps I saw it in normal % ratio terms, viz: 5/2 = x/100 .... x (as %) is 250 ... 5 being 2.5 X 2
