    The Pulverisation of Australian Rugby

If they were not getting ARU funding, then they should. I am certainly not suggesting g that only SS clubs should be assisted by the ARU. If Bill has to cut funding, then reduce the $6 odd mill he gives to the Tahs. They have turnover of $20M pa,they can absorb the $330k much easier than the...

    The Pulverisation of Australian Rugby

Manly have closer to 150 players than 70! More likely probably 1/2 those playing now would drift away from playing. It's not just the players, how many sponsors do you think don't have a lifetime attachment to the club they sponsor, they won't be throwing their money around in any subbies club...

    The Pulverisation of Australian Rugby

The Rays have 28 squad players? They are totally dependant on the 4 SS clubs to provide cattle ready for the step up. I know the Northern beaches clubs are already well into their pre season, doing 3 sessions per week. The Rays feeder clubs would have have 150 odd player with first grade...

The Most Valuable Player in Australian Rugby ?

That's a good point. Wilkinson puts pressure on the opposition not to infringe a long way out from the try line.It makes life easier for his pigs to retain possession over a much larger portion of the field, than other kickers.

The ARU promotes itself as a professional organisation, supposedly run by successful and professional managers. If they can't run it profitably, then the cuts need to be made to the wallaby setup, grants to the professional Soup franchises or in their administration. Mugging 6 year olds for tuck...

    Ireland v Australia

Where are you going to hide QC (Quade Cooper) or KB (Kurtley Beale) in D? They are already hiding Foley. Hiding places in Test Footy are harder to find in the Test arena, than Soup. When is the time to test a rookie? That is exactly what should happen this tour. It's a year and a full season before RWC. I don't think you are...

Disagree about Quade at 12. ATM we have Lilo,To'omua,KB (Kurtley Beale) ,Godwin & Horne options at 12. That's enough options, and some are yet to get a real opportunity yet. Play him at 10 or don't play him. I think his wider passing game would have put much more pressure on the Frogs last week.

True, but it's swings and roundabouts. It's a much more prestigious role than running a financial services company,or mining company. The scrutiny comes with that. And it's something everyone is well aware of before they accept the role.

I reckon he is earning the right money for a business the size of the ARU. If you were to compare his salary with many of the CEO's of companies at the bottom of the top 200 ASX list.He is on par with most of those, which are similiar in size but much more profitable than the ARU.

It is interesting. Directors agreed to 1/2 their fee. Pulver earned a third of what JON ripped out of the joint in 10 months, despite being almost full time at Echo for 5 of those months.

    The League Media

Why the fuck would South Africa or Any if the 6 Nations want to change the rules of their sport to accommodate a code that is only popular in Sydney and Brisbane?

    The Pulverisation of Australian Rugby

C'mon. It's less than 1/4 of 1% of turnover, it's what they spend on stationary,or Board travel expenses. It changes nothing for the ARU. It's less than his bonus. What chance of him not qualifying for that this year, despite the pronouncements of the joint being close to insolvent? What is the...

As an aside,I can't access any if their annual reports ATM,but my recollection was that all the ARU's broadcast income is never hedged. Given the performance if the AUD over the past year it should be a nice little bonus for the ARU.

    The Pulverisation of Australian Rugby

The ARU had turnover of $140 odd Million last year. Grants to SS clubs are $330k That's petty cash. It's been said plenty of times that 2/3 of the Wallaby squad are products of Premier Club Rugby. What business would risk 2/3 of their prime product for an annual investment of about a 1/4 of 1%...

If we are going to hark back to the glory days, pick a period where the coach had a winning record. What coach had a poorer win loss ratio than Link in the professional era? He was not the Mesiah. Lets just judge the players (and the coach) on performances and not Soup allegiances.

I like to see his argument on why KB (Kurtley Beale) should be ranked ahead of Bernard.

All good points. But let's remember that uncle Bill has imposed a double whammy on the SS clubs. Not only is he withdrawing grants to them,he has added expenses to each of the clubs in the form of an NRC team that they need to fund. My biggest gripe is he says one thing and does another. ARU...

    Sydney Colts - 2015

You are debating against yourself. If Souths will play their better U18's in their older squads if they are good enough. It weakens their 18's team dramatically, and the comp if one assumes all other clubs have a similar mindset.

I must have misunderstood what he said. I thought he was using the last Bled side as his starting point. I'm fine with Foley starting ATM,but I'm more of the view that this tour is more about exploring options, not cementing combinations. We are 3 games in,and the player most people regard as the...
