    Tri Nations - AUS v SAF 23rd July 2011.

What I liked even more than the long-range attack was the constant competition at the breakdown. The Boks were forced to clean out at almost every ruck to retain possession. If the Wallabies can take this to the next level then they'll do well in the RWC.

McCabe did good. I'm extremely happy to give him a run from here. A Conrad Smith type of player: understated and effective.

Well, we'll have to agree to disagree. Regardless of what Forbes magazine says, the terms introvert and extrovert originated with Karl Jung. According to Jung, an introvert is a person whose interest is directed inward toward his own feelings and thoughts. An extrovert is a person whose...

I don't think mild mannered is the same as introverted. Introverted means inward looking. I doubt any of those blokes are inward looking. A person can be quite reserved and yet impose himself very effectively on his surroundings.

Quade opened a few of his laptops.

The funniest thing I have read in years...

People are reading a bit much into this. Elsom's a professional sportsman. It's a merchandising opportunity. Hundreds of sportsmen have been the subject of books like this, some quite good (like FitzSimons' boigraphy of Eales) and some unbearably sycophantic. This one seems pretty bad...

Leonardo da Vinci in studs. :lmao:

My list wasn't intended to be exhaustive, merely exemplary.

He's softly spoken but no introvert. An extremely determined young man.

I think the correct wording is: "Yeah, right, as if sarcasm can be conveyed on the interweb".

There is nothing introverted about Nau, Robinson, Horwill, Pocock, Genia, Cooper, JOC (James O'Connor), Mitchell, Beale or Ioane. I'd suggest that Deans is molding his game plan around these people, not the other way round.

Of course I'm not saying he's another Dan Carter. Between you, me, and the gatepost, I was hoping for a precious Kiwi to say that on cue. :thumb ;) If you have to be Dan Carter to benefit from a position change, then only a handful of players in the history of the game could ever have...

Deans certainly perceives him to have the skills of a 12. He gets a closer look at players than we ever will. I'm happy to see how he plays as a 12, before concluding that he can't. Deans has had some success by moving players closer to the action in the past, such as one D Carter.

    O'Connor at 12 and McCabe at 13

Ioane to 13 also make room for Mitchell if he returns and demands selection.
  16. Groucho

waratahjesus is Reddy! in blue. Maybe one day they will both instantaneously convert all their matter to energy, like matter meeting antimatter.
  17. Groucho

    O'Connor at 12 and McCabe at 13

A 'plan b' isn't simply different playmakers coming on - it is a change in approach to the game, such as the introduction of a kicking 10 to close out a game.
  18. Groucho

    O'Connor at 12 and McCabe at 13

With the exception of Nonu/Williams, the New Zealand backs are the same size as ours. Are we only talking about the 12 position? It certainly isn't true that backs have gotten bigger across the board. That was the case in Oz 5 years ago but most backlines seem to be build around footballing...

McCabe is the quickest in the Brumbies over 40m, and the Brumbies have some fast players.

Why does the hooker throw in lineouts?

TOCC, the argument for halfback is the same as for hooker. There is almost always precisely one on the bench. Like hooker, they are a mathematically ideal substitute thrower. In fact, there is a good argument that either hookers or halfbacks should kick for goal for the same reason. The problem...
