    Reds 2014

Thanks for relaying this article Tranq. Hmmm....so the friendly journo, loyal Jim Tucker, is letting us know that squad deficiencies are the key issue....and then in the very same place Jim Carmichael endorses RG as the rugby teacher and 'the long term coach of the Reds, the right man for the...

    Canes v Reds @ TheCakeTin

Cote - I expect the marker for 'change will come' or 'excuses will come', and thus in the latter case the elevation of corporate ego above the fan-paying public (us) that funds it all, to be whether we see imminent leaks starting to 'friendly' media that centre upon the 'problems of the players...

    Reds 2014

@ Brumby Runner You make some excellent points. Though the problem of endemically bad coaching is that it can deteriorate good and even excellent players as their confidence and self-belief falls away, and simultaneously they receive too little high quality individual developmental coaching re...

    Reds 2014

No question: he would be outstanding. Everywhere he's gone he's improved teams, skills, players. His rugby nous is exceptional. He's also not a big head and never speaks without thoughtful consideration as to what needs saying, and no more. I think though he's rejected overtures from outside NZ...

    Force V Bulls @ NIB, Rnd 11

M Foley - a coach transformed by a departure from the world-class rugby toxicity that are (or were) the NSW/Tahs RUs. And shows his newly revealed class in coaching a team to its strengths and minimizing its weaknesses. Has the 9-yr old Force ever achieved a higher Super table position, or...

    Canes v Reds @ TheCakeTin

The whole backline structure is a classic RG muddle/confusion. Taps is way better at 12, CFS at 13. Lucas is no 15 of adequate calibre in 2014. Harris a journeyman with a great boot. And worse, much worse, Meehan absolutely clearly unambiguously has no clue regarding the design and coaching...

    Canes v Reds @ TheCakeTin

Why scratch?? RG was poor in almost every dimension of coaching and selection and team motivation at the Force, why would he be a man transformed at the Reds? Why were you and others expecting him to do so much better at the Reds? This is the question no one here seems to want to answer or...

    Reds 2014

Nah. Didn't say that. Of course not all made the finals in their Year 1 seasons, nowhere did I say or even infer that. Nor did I say that these men had no opportunity or need to shape their teams. Rather, I did argue with the emerging notion I've seen in parts here and in our dumb-headed...

    Reds 2014

TWAS responds to this really well in #3110 above. It's about demonstrable improvements in total team achievement and tactical capability, execution excellence, etc, and it's about individual player growth and skill development. Getting into Finals or winning a title are built from such things...

    Reds 2014

The whole 'need new roster, we have too many 'peaked already' Reds players etc and so we can't get into the Finals as our players are the main problem' emerging theory is a total furphy. Look at the team's very marked, serious declines in: - core defence consistently applied - programmed...

    Reds 2014

^^ Actually, this debate re the merits/demerits of private investment in State RUs/S15 teams is in fact hugely relevant to the Reds..........maybe not Reds 2014 I grant you that, but I'd wager it'll be bloody relevant to the Reds 2016-2018. So, perhaps we're just a bit too early with our debate...

    Reds 2014

Mark my word: from around 2016 on, we ARE going to need more total $ funds in our S15/NRC units to (a) retain our best players vs offers from the increasingly affluent NH (and where the ARU is reducing player payments here to avert its insolvency over time) and (b) hold off our good young...

    Reds 2014

All noted, understood TOCC. But: - I did say 'handled with care and the right investors brought in'....this is vs just opening the door to more or less any cheque-book holder of size with or without matching ego problems. - the Rebels failure with PE was not IMO intrinsically a problem...

    Reds vs Brumbies - Rd9 2014

One more point re CFS - I have found that at wing CFS tends to loiter somewhat - almost a 'shy' player if you like - and appears as though waiting for the action to be made for him vs say an Ioane that would be constantly hunting for engagement with QC (Quade Cooper) or ball-carrying forwards. Whilst at 13...

    Reds 2014

If the Reds/QRU opened the Reds/QLD NRC teams to say 50% private investment the whole Reds whole developmental scene would change dramatically and, if it was handled with care and the right investors brought in, IMO for the strategic better. The game/the Reds need materially enhanced financial...

    Reds vs Brumbies - Rd9 2014

To me Taps 12 CFS 13 and JJT 11 would offer a much better risk-reward profile vs Brums than the way RG has it for this match. CFS was just getting 13 right at last and Taps remains a natural 12 IMO despite some good recent play at 13. I have never been a fan of Harris as a true attacking 12...

    Reds v Force Rd 8 2014

Reg, as you were once employed by the QRU (still are?), you occassionally pop in here or hereabouts and hint at knowledge of the innermost workings of the Reds. No bad thing necessarily, why not. My source re what I noted re Fowler's 2012 departure from the Reds was very credible. But you...

    Reds 2014

There are no essential differences from prior S15 years. Still 18 rounds, 16 matches per team, 8 home, 8 away. 2 byes for all. The only difference is that no team gets an automatic 8 points added to their end-of-16 matches total. Just as adjunct: in the 2011-2013 S15 period no team has entered...

    Reds 2014

Just to note, there are no 'equals a win' 4 bye points this year, so last year's adjusted 58 is 50 this year. The Reds are on 15 points today. If we win 6 more (assuming no bonus points) I would think that will total 39. Even if we impute 6 more BPs (from however) from the next round on, then...
