Silver lining I see is that it wasn't another soft tissue leg injury.

Struth, big call. Good luck to him, hope he has a blinder.

Assuming JOC (James O'Connor) will be starting, I'm a bit worried about his capacity to last the full 80. He was blowing hard last week, and mentioned how the increased game speed this year had done a number on him post-match.

    Concussions and Protecting Our Players

https://www.sen.com.au/news/2023/03/14/nrl-set-to-implement-mandatory-stand-down-policy-for-concussed-players/ Didn't realise the NRL had yet to implement mandatory stand downs... Also a pretty poorly-formulated perspective from Riccio imo. Looking forward to commentary around how the game's...

    Concussions and Protecting Our Players

You'd have to think that at some point he becomes a liability, both from a contractual and registration (insurance) perspective. In that instance though, it's a very clear and direct loss of income as a result of concussions, which could make things interesting from a legal perspective.

    Concussions and Protecting Our Players

On another note it will be very interesting to see how the NRL manages Ponga now - possibly the first player of this era to have significant and repeated concussions? From the noise being made so far, it seems like it'll be a lengthy period on the sidelines - thankfully.

Yeah, that was my suggestion about it not necessarily being unrelated. No doubt there were pretty robust data privacy and anonymity assurances with the study, so unlikely we'll find out nor be sure whether it made any difference.

https://www.theguardian.com/sport/2023/mar/14/landmark-class-action-chases-compensation-for-alleged-long-term-concussion-damage-to-afl-players Unrelated to the class-action (or maybe not), but it's an interesting note. I've heard similar from people who worked on one of the early concussion...

    Aussie Player Exodus

The union/league divide in Sydney has always been solid (although that's changing) - Brisbane fans are much more fickle and tend to swing both ways. More teams are a massive threat.

Looking further - the 2021 annual report attributes ~$1m in rev to memberships. Obviously can't know numbers without an average cost of membership, but assume the average membership was $150 that year, we're looking at ~6500 members.

    Aussie Player Exodus

I have a vague recollection of them celebrating reaching a membership milestone (15k?) last year or in 2021, but did a quick search and couldn't find anything. In contrast I found a post of them celebrating 40k members in 2014.

    Aussie Player Exodus

I personally know a number of groups of people who have not renewed memberships this year as a result of penny pinching - myself included. For many, the actual ticket is only a small part of the cost - food, drinks, transport, etc. all add up. Of course these costs can be limited, but it's the...

    Aussie Player Exodus

Dolphins first game was only 32k, with Broncs Cowboys being 43k. Regardless, I sadly think the Reds will struggle to even get 20k coming off a loss - especially with a Broncs game the night before and a Dolphins game the following week. Cost of living will hit attendance hard this year I feel.

    Refereeing decisions

I'd like to see it more integrated into the broadcast. Display a little popup once the decision has been made, with a very brief description of the reasoning. Similar to the graphics announcing time penalties on the F1 broadcast.
