    Super Rugby General Chat

I was more talking about the whole competition Wednesday team naming deadline that Super AU ran that had all teams dropping at the same time, on the same day. The weak, 48 hours before kick off, dribbling out that occasionally saw some teams named after the start of the round we saw last year...

    Northern Hemisphere Rugby

The difference in rugby is the close association between national and domestic teams combined with the cross border nature of some of the competitions. It's fine in football where there is a lot more cross border movement and the competitions are all structured for a single country so...

    Northern Hemisphere Rugby

It gets real dicey having promotion/relegation for a cross border comp like that, particularly with the Italian teams. It might work if it was a British Isles comp only, though the Scots/Welsh might be a bit tentative about potentially losing the majority of their professional sides in the space...

    Super Rugby General Chat

Looks like all the squads are being named on the 9th of November: Really happy to see this level of organisation across the competition, hopefully this means we should see the consistent team naming deadline week to week again too.

Wales v Barbarians Millennium Stadium, Cardiff

A bit surprised Valetini is going around again in this match, most of the other Australians missed a significant chunk of time this year, where as he has played every wallaby game and all but 2 Brumbies games, starting every game he played. Would've thought he could use as much off season as he...

    Australian Rugby / RA

Oh no, it was her actual account. It looks like she's gone through and deleted most of them, though there's still one on the wallabies post wishing Eddie well, blaming the players and hoping he enjoyed the Portuguese chicken.

    Reds v Saitama, Ballymore, Saturday 4th November @ 3:05pm

Yeah, don't know whats gone on there, it's definitely Saturday the 4th in Brisbane. Maybe they went overboard with the whole daylight savings farce and decided to add an hour and a day this year?

    Reds v Saitama, Ballymore, Saturday 4th November @ 3:05pm

3:05pm kickoff AEST time, so 4pm sounds right for those unlucky souls living south of God's country.

    Reds v Saitama, Ballymore, Saturday 4th November @ 3:05pm

Yeah, he was so important to the Reds win and close loss against the Chiefs this year, playing a really consummate game at fullback. He might not work in every setup but he has plenty to offer for the next few years in any game plan built around territory control and smart tactical kicking...

    Reds v Saitama, Ballymore, Saturday 4th November @ 3:05pm

There were a few in those shots that aren't in this side - Hunter Paisami, Isaac Henry and Liam Wright too. Henry, Lynagh and Paisami were all in yellow bibs (Wright in blue) if that means anything. Might be training but not match fit yet? There was also a closed door trial last weekend too...

    Wallabies 2024

Those sound like Swinton's stats rather than Gordon's, but 3 yellow cards in 20 tests (most off the bench) is still way too high for a halfback. He also has a reasonably high penalty rate in Super Rugby. As @The Ghost of Raelene says, it's the one position you really can't afford to have...

    Wallabies 2024

Yeah , Swinton is still early days in his career and like Swain can absolutely turn it around. Both of them will need pretty clean super seasons to push their case though.

Sounds like Harry McLaughlin-Phillips is going to be starting on Saturday

The one and only Wallaby Coach thread

Have been trying to track them all down recently too, poor visibility into Japanese setups makes it particularly difficult. Here are a couple of others: Brock James - Head Coach - Hawkes Bay Daniel Halangahu - Backs/Skills - Auckland Blues Toutai Kefu - Head Coach - Tonga Quite a few former...

    Wallabies 2024

I think the Lions tour will be his last year, but I'd be more confident in that if he was having some time off this year.

    Wallabies 2024

I think he's just a bit too slow in decision making and not quick enough in his feet to make up for it. It's not an issue for the most part in super rugby but at international level it sees him regularly exposed and out of position/inaccurate, which in turn has lead to too many yellow cards...

    Wallabies 2024

I think we'll probably still see more of White but maybe not a lot. Neville is probably only an outside chance of more caps at this stage. I doubt we'll see more of O'Connor either, particularly given his injury run. I also hope we've seen the last of Jake Gordon, I really don't think he's up to...

    Wallabies 2024

Hard to say, but plenty of those "passed over" are gone or on the way out - Hooper, Cooper, Samu, Hodge were all unlikely to feature after this year for example. A few more who were in the squad will either be done or on declining minutes too, so even if the new coach wouldn't have picked the...
