Not really, I am an ex 2nd rower and I am fine out there with the players.

Referees run on average a little more than forwards and halfbacks during the game. The thing about playing is you are expected to make 1/2 or 1/3 breakdowns but as a ref you need to be there at each one.

I don't know, Rolland was a half back and he is up there with Barnes and Joubert as one of the best in the world.

The comms gear they use means you are able to pick up what both touchies are saying as well. It's a good system.

The injury looked like a compound fracture from my position on the ground (the referee in orange on the side). The crack and scream of his leg breaking came through on the microphones and was pretty sickening.

Not always, it takes time to understand what each individual person is trying to acheive but once you understand that it's fairly easy to see who is doing what wrong.
