GAGR Wallaby Player of the Year 2021

True Adam - but it also highlights again that, whatever the issues in Australian rugby, producing quality opensides isn’t one of them. Smith, Pocock & Hooper winning 6 out of the 12 wouldn’t surprise anyone, I wouldn’t think.

Pretty good for a guy playing out of position.

Great work Reg, thanks. A good read.

Illegally sealing off rucks is a bit like crooked lineout throws or handling the jumper in the air. Happens far more often than how often it is called.

    Reds 2022

Yes - just came from the pub and getting to share a bit of time with Elton Flatley & Alex Mafi after they ran a training session with our club pathways players. Very enjoyable evening. I was already a big fan of Mafi as a footballer - now a fan of him off the field as well.

    Reds 2022

That will be a real shame - but I can’t say it’s not expected. The Reds playing list will come under a lot more financial pressure next time most of these guys come off contract. Across the board they are pretty much all worth more on the market now then they were last time. The Reds re-vamp and...

    Reds 2022

31 players retained is a great outcome. Of the players gone, both Hegarty & Sorovi were good players who provided depth, but neither are irreplaceable. BPA is the most significant loss - we need both Mafi & 1 (or both) of Asiata & Nasser to kick on.

I know your countering BRs post - but even in noting the decisions as poor I thinks that’s incredibly tough. This is when we were reduced to 13. I thought the players did pretty well to react to the quick shift in focus by the Welsh from the catching pod to the front pod. Unfortunately the...

I’ll defend him here. If he gets the kick away the Welsh are deep in their own end and have to go length of the field. Judging in hindsight is great but I was thinking in my head ‘hoof it’. If it went out in the 22 it would’ve been our throw, right? Anyway I was wrong and he was wrong. He...

    Waratahs 2022

I get the concern about potential nepotism but at 21 the kid is the second best loose head in the country. Happy to hear alternatives if anyone thinks otherwise. Could he have got a foot in the door - sure. But I’d have to say the Tahs backed the right horse in this case.

    Refereeing decisions

And that is a really significant part of this discussion. I have a lot of sympathy for refs in the current framework. But the fact that home broadcasters can and do influence results is a serious issue.

Fair enough. I’m leaving it there. Like I said - wasn’t trying to be a dick or have a crack at you.

I don’t think we answered the question about OS players conclusively either. I thought Latu, Arnold and Beale were all good today and Skelton was a decent pass even though he gave away a silly penalty. Not sure though whether they were a big upgrade on the domestic based players. I agree with...

    Wallabies 2023

Sure. That’s a fair enough observation and I had watched this mornings game before I jumped on. But there is also a clear forum rule. It was a simple enough request. If Joe had deleted his first 2 sentences there wasn’t a problem. Edit: and the only reason I asked at all was because I figure a...

    Wallabies 2023

Not sure why your so upset. My post wasn’t insulting or inflammatory. I just asked you to follow the rules because I know what it is like to get up to watch a replay, jump on a thread you think is safe and read a post like yours which clearly indicated the result.

I think you’re kidding yourself if you don’t think McKellar isn’t influencing selections and some Brumbies players are getting a leg up. I’d suggest that is very clear - although, ironically, I don’t think Wright is one of the more contentious choices. However, equally I think people are...

Gutted with the result - but I did think that was a good game of rugby, leaving aside the interruptions. I understand the frustration with the refereeing but I do think they are in a bind with the current framework. But I thought the calls they made were right. If anything i thought they...

It’s nice to have some genuine options. I have no idea who will end up being the best between Lolesio, Harrison, Gordon x 2, Donaldson, Edmed, Pasitoa, Kuenzle, Lynagh but it’s great to have some genuine emerging talent and competition. We just have to give them some time. At this post Lolesio...
