Wallabies v. Springboks, 18th July 2015, Suncorp, Brisbane

It's quite thinkable. Cheika may prefer to experiment early than late. Alternatively, Cooper may be his first choice and needs game time or evaluation. Cooper may have played the house down at training. Not knowing Cheika's mind, the permutations are at this time are also unknown. The argument...

Wallaby 31 players for 2015 RWC

I mean incentive in the economics sense wambers (although not a financial incentive, but a behavioral one). There's an incentive to return, because there's a benefit to players from making that choice. However there's also an incentive to leave, provided the intention is to return. The ARU will...

Wallaby 31 players for 2015 RWC

It's an incentive, and should therefore have an effect. The fact that the ARU haven't changed it demonstrates that it's intended to be there. The fact that several players have used it demonstrates that it works. The fact that they might play like drains on their return is another matter.

Wallaby 31 players for 2015 RWC

Correct. The eligibility rule around players who sign up for the following year is there for precisely that reason: to encourage players to return. It's not a loophole that the ARU keeps forgetting to close.

Karmichael Hunt charged with cocaine supply.

And yet you say with apparent certainty that drugs shouldn't be legalised. How do you know the risk of doing so is greater than the risk of not doing so? The Internet isn't any more qualified to decide these matters than politicians are. As a father, I believe the greatest risk by far is...

It's like the pantomime villain. Everyone enthusiastically shouts "he's behind you", even though they know he'll never get the girl.

As Fatprop says, Beale's defence at fullback is much better than that. Not as good as Folau. Probably better than Dagg (although that probably includes all international fullbacks). He's pulled off a few very good try-savers at the back.

Wallabies v. Springboks, 18th July 2015, Suncorp, Brisbane

It could equally be an advantage. The way to be at maximum fitness for rugby is to play rugby. If it had been New Zealand players who had played the most minutes, then people would be bemoaning our players' relative lack of match-hardening. There'll be an optimum amount of rugby to have been...

So much controversy about Douglas. Rules broken. Rules not broken. Fair. Not fair. It's all bollocks. What matters is whether he provides an option, and if he does, then whether it improves our chances of winning the trophies on offer this year. The bloke might not even be fit to play. We have...

I agree with Fatprop. Douglas is a bit of a Palu. Because he's not a ball-running lock, who runs around with players hanging off his back like ants, fans think he does nothing.

You have to take risks when you're not the better team. That's not flawed logic: it's elementary game theory. You have to establish a point of difference that's not based in superior execution of the details. Otherwise you're playing to lose.

Wallabies v. Springboks, 18th July 2015, Suncorp, Brisbane

That's no indication of anything. The Canes might well have lost by more if they changed to an attritional style. How did all the other teams go?
