Sydney Rays .. NRC Team Official Thread

The bus options aren't that good around there. You've really gotta drive into Manly if you're coming from outside the Northern Beaches (even from North Sydney or Chatswood). I think the Rays should have organised to play one or 2 matches at North Sydney Oval. The Thursday night match at least...

Western Sydney Rams . NRC Official Team Thread

It's a no brainer for an investor to get involved. It's a chance to basically part own and run a rugby team on the national stage for a low 6 figure sum. To build it from nothing into something that might still exist in 100 years. Spare change to a lot of rugby people to do something they'd find...

    National Rugby Championship 2014

I think we should stop calling the NRC the 3rd tier. It doesn't do the competition any favours. It's not a true 3rd tier comp anyway. It's more of an extension of the 2nd tier as it will involve all the players that aren't involved with the Wallabies (i.e. the 1st tier). Actually lets just...

    National Rugby Championship 2014

I think the Rays will get the best crowds in the competition. They certainly seem to be very well organised and they represent the rugby heartland of Sydney. Brookvale Oval on a Saturday or Sunday afternoon will be attractive to a lot of people.

    National Rugby Championship 2014

It seems it's definitely going to be a bit of a rush job but I think it'll all get pulled together in time and the competition will have some moderate success in the first season. As long as the ARU and most of the teams can break even then everything else can be built on. I just hope there's...

    Aussie Player Exodus

If Izzy wants to go back to league they'll pay for it. But if he wants to stay I think he'll get the same or more money to do so. Remember when the 'friends of the Waratahs' tried to sign Andrew Johns? If the ARU had backed the signing he would have come over. I wonder if the same or other...

    National Rugby Championship 2014

The NZRU, in their strategic plan have a stated objective along the lines of increasing participation and support for rugby among the growing Asian population in Auckland. The ARU needs to have similar goals, especially in Sydney. There's no excuse for a club like Eastwood not to be engaging...

    S18 on its way

6 EOI's but I doubt all will put in official bids. If there are 2 or 3 excellent bids I wouldn't have a problem with them admitting them all either. But I doubt they will do that. SANZAR should have gone through with this process before settling on a structure. They might have got more...

    Rugby News from unexpected places

I tend to agree. But I think Hong Kong and whoever comes 2nd in Africa will be more competitive than Kazakhstan and Tunisia were last time. It's strange that Russia have seemingly fallen away so much. I thought they'd improve a lot after the 2011 World Cup, but they've gone backwards. They...

    S18 on its way

Having one team in Asia and one team in the Americas doesn't seem like a very good long term structure. Those teams will have a huge disadvantage. If they're going to go down this road I hope they have a plan in place to build separate conferences in these regions over the next 5 years.

    Waratahs 2014

Definitely. What was the crowd for the Brumbies match? Looked around 30k, which is okay but given they had so many weeks to promote it, the prices were cheap and the game almost a playoff for the top of the Australian conference, I think it was slightly disappointing.

    Rugby News from unexpected places

If the 2015 Fijian side plays more like the 2007 team than the one that played in 2011 then the pool of death will be even deadlier. The poor repechage winner! Everyone's going to be trying to belt them more than normal to improve their for and against.

    Rugby News from unexpected places

Well Zimbabwe's power was far too much in the end 57-22 the final score. But Madagascar were great to watch. Probably should have scored another couple of tries to make the score a little closer. They made a tonne of linebreaks and must have broken a test rugby record for number of offloads...

    Rugby News from unexpected places

This is fantastic! Anyone else watching? Zimbabwe were out to a 22-0 lead early but Madagascar scored 2 quick (brilliant) tries to come back. They then kicked a penalty goal before half time so it's 22-15 at the break. Madagascar will have the wind behind them in the 2nd half. Madagascar...

    Rugby News from unexpected places

Here's a decent article on the game there: http://www.espn.co.uk/2015-rugby-world-cup/rugby/story/211251.html According to the above: "There are 160 clubs in Antananarivo alone and the top sides get regular crowds of more than 8,000 people with extensive local and national television...

    Rugby News from unexpected places

You can watch for yourself. Their match with Zimbabwe starts in 5 minutes and is being streamed live. http://www.irb.com/live/video.html I think they're probably a class below the other 3 teams, given the others all have some professional and semi-pro players, but Madagascar are at home...

    Rugby News from unexpected places

Kenya just beat Namibia 29-22 in the first round of the African Rugby World Cup qualifying tournament! Enormous result! Namibia were up 12-0 early on and are currently ranked 11 places above Kenya in the rankings (that will obviously change now). Kenya looked very good with ball in hand and...

Western Sydney Rams . NRC Official Team Thread

IS, true we'll have to see what the story is. Just a thought. There's apparently 3 consortiums bidding for the Waratahs license. Only 1 of them can get it. Maybe one of the others would be interested in investing in the Rams? It'd involve a smaller investment and they'd be building...

Western Sydney Rams . NRC Official Team Thread

Very disappointing decision at such a crucial (and late) time. Seems like poor form from Eastwood's part but I guess the full story isn't out there. I hope it doesn't result in the loss of Eastwood fans (who may now be split between the other Sydney teams). Does this threaten the existence of...
