Continued decline in Sydney Junior Rugby

I think the interns are still on Xmas break. http://www.juniors.rugby.com.au/ gives me the old " This webpage is not available" message The server at www.juniors.rugby.com.au can't be found, because the DNS lookup failed. DNS is the network service that translates a website's name to its...

    S18 on its way

Could the next South American entrant into Super Rugby be a combined Uruguay/Argentina franchise? The bulk of the team could be the Uruguay National Squad, rounded out with some international journeymen (or up and coming development players) from Argentina and other countries. Is Uruguay...

2016 Under-20 Rugby World Championships - Manchester UK

The more I am hearing about the Super Rugby Under 20 "Curtain Raiser" competition, the more sense it makes to have larger squads than previous years. This may be why NSW and QLD seem to be keeping squads at a bigger size than many punters have expected. It also provides for more insurance...

    Shute Shield 2016

There is a whisper of three way trial Randi-Wix and The Corporation against the NSW U20's (3 x 1/2 games). I suspect that the Shute Shield Teams will not be at full strength for that trial, and they will deploy a mix of Shute Shield veterans, along with some graduating 2015 Colts, and some of...

    Shute Shield 2016

The Presser from ARU today about the Sydney Club 7's names Morgan Turinui as the Wicks Assistant Coach. Unclear if that position is for the entire club or just their 7's programme, although I suspect it is the former. $10k up for grabs in prize money, but only 8 Sydney Clubs will be...

^^ Have the names of the remaining thirty something sized squad been released?

    Waratahs 2016

Interesting squad composition 22 Forwards (17 Core, 2 EPS, 2 Supplementary and 1 Development), 17 Backs (13 Core, 1 EPS, 3 Supplementary) Lots of universal backs that can play multiple positions, rather than specialists.

    Reds 2016

All this Cloud Cuckoo Land talk may upset some of our older readers from Brisbane and evoke memories of the demolition of the Cloudland Ballroom, which was sanctioned by a bunch of cuckoos. A rather sad day in the somewhat colourful history of Queensland as it was "back in the day" under Joe.

    Waratahs 2016

The more Wix in the Tahs, the less they are available for Shute Shield duties. I'm yet to be convinced that Horwitz is ready for the step up to 10 at Super Rugby level. I don't think the NSW Country Eagles used him as a 10 in 2015 NRC.

    Shute Shield 2016

^^^ Without seeing the rosters for 2016, you'd have to think Woodies and Hobbits are the early 2016 favourites, with MMM and Rats as outsiders that could surprise.

    Rugby 7s general chat

New Coach for the Australian 7s Mens Team has been announced: Andy Friend has been signed on a 2 1/2 year contract. http://www.rugby.com.au/News/NewsArticle/tabid/1699/ArticleID/17239/Andy-Friend-appointed-Qantas-Australian-Mens-Sevens-coach.aspx

    Shute Shield 2016

This could be the Year of the Hobbit but it's all a bit speculative until the 2016 rosters and coaching staff finalised. Plenty of rumours about player movements, and a few Coaches are yet to be named.

    Shute Shield 2016

Which Clubs (or their Licenced Clubs) still own/control their own clubrooms? The Hobbits may be the only ones left. I think the Beasts may no longer control the Woollahra Oval premises, but could be wrong. The Grandstand at Uni is run by a mob independent from The Corporation. MMM use the...

    The Official Shield Thread.

@Gagger has had a fairly reasonable go at summarising the year that 2015 was on the blog front page (http://www.greenandgoldrugby.com/?p=89448), but has completely overlooked one of G&GR's achievements of the year - Establishing The Horan Little Shield. Creative Idea by @Pfitzy. Conceptual...

Still Sir Richie GOAT as far as I'm concerned, regardless of what the NZ government decide to call him.

    Shute Shield 2016

Probably the same way that many rugby (and other community) clubs (in Sydney and elsewhere) have lost their club facilities. A combination of changing demographics, mismanagement, changing regulatory environment, failure to move with the times (see mismanagement) and/or a combination of all...

    Western Force - 2016

Whispers on the Shute Shield 2016 thread that Shannon Frazier from Randwick has been lured West in some sort of Assistant Coaching capacity.
