    Broadcast options for Australian Rugby

I think the problem with the replays is that there's no commentary and as you already know the result the experience is kind of flat. I'd be surprised if they couldn't get more than 200 people once core rugby fans became aware of the service. I've watched live streams of American college rugby...

    Broadcast options for Australian Rugby

I don't think the clubs should have to fork out the cash for it. The ARU should do it and keep it all on one channel - whether it's through Club Rugby TV or someone else. They should even be able to make a little bit of money back through selling advertising space.

    The League Media

I liked it. Targeting league fans in a sort of fun, humorous way is really not a bad idea IMO. League is the most similar sport to rugby on the planet. Almost every skill involved in rugby league is also involved in rugby union. The challenge is to then get supporters to appreciate the other...

    Broadcast options for Australian Rugby

This comes from what someone posted on the NSW Country Eagles facebook page: And later this when someone asked that if the QRU can stream matches on youtube why can't others:

    Broadcast options for Australian Rugby

I agree and I'm most interested to see how it rates in a few weeks when the NRL and AFL seasons are over and it's had time to benefit from some word of mouth. If the Thursday night matches continue to be full of fast and attacking rugby I think it could grow into something.

    Broadcast options for Australian Rugby

All we know is that last Thursday didn't rate above 38k (it wasn't in the top 20 rating programs for the day and 20th was 38k) - I'd guess good enough would be more than that. Hard to rate when people don't know it's on though. I think most people that watched on Thursday would have enjoyed...

NRC Law Variations - have your say

37.18 is excellent for a game with 10 tries. The time between a try being scored and the ball being kicked off again is fairly significant. Over a minute each time.

    NRC Crowd Watch

I'm most interested in the crowd QLD Country can get. It's free entry so it will show exactly how many people in the Gold Coast are interested. Not sure how many people the ground at Bond Uni can hold, but hopefully it's full. I hope the NRC can get a few crowds of over 5k during the season...

    Broadcast options for Australian Rugby

Good post Angry Seahorse. I think that's exactly what the ARU need to do for the NRC. It shouldn't be up to individual clubs to stream home games if they want to, all on different online channels or platforms. If the national ice hockey league in Australia can live stream matches with...

    New Zealand v Australia - Auckland - 23 August 2014

Discipline has to improve. Absolutely terrible since the yellow card. Maybe after a yellow card it's better to kick for touch or take a scrum rather than kick points. Sure you get the 3 but you give up the best try scoring opportunity you'll get in the game. And as this 10 minutes has shown...

    S18 on its way

Do you think the same national prestige would be enough to get any locals to support a team? Would the government promote it? Would locals see it as a loss of face if a Singapore team, in a global competition was a flop with no support? Because what national prestige would there be if the...

    Watching NRC online...got links?

It's a little disappointing but at the same time it's never going to rate if people don't know about it. I think most of the people that did tune in will do so again, and hopefully it builds some momentum. The clash with the NRL also wouldn't have helped. They have 2 more weeks of Thursday...

    S18 on its way

If there was that level of backing guaranteed for the long term then I wouldn't mind a Singapore team in the future. I could see an Asian conference one day with say 2 or 3 teams in Japan and 1 each in Singapore and Hong Kong. Maybe Seoul. But at this stage, if they're adding 1 Asian team...

    NRC Expansion

I think they'll go to 10 teams when they can. Maybe 12 in time.

Brisbane City vs. Sydney Stars - NRC Round 1, 21/08 @ Ballymore

That's a promising number on a wet Thursday night. You'd think they should be able to build on that for weekend games. Especially when the likes of Quade Cooper come back. Hopefully the other games this weekend can get similar or better numbers. Good weather would help!

    National Rugby Championship 2014

So there were 0 attempts at penalty goal, plenty of running rugby and inventive play, 10 tries, no yellow cards and only 20 penalties in the match. New points system a complete success in game 1. Well, some doubts about the 3 point conversion, but I guess you have to do something to please the...

Brisbane City vs. Sydney Stars - NRC Round 1, 21/08 @ Ballymore

Great stuff so far. Good rugby, all the new law experiments seem to be having a small but positive impact and the crowd looks decent for a slightly wet Thursday night. The way this is going we could get a 40 point draw! 8 tries to 5 with the Stars picking up a bonus point.

SANZAR Survey on Super Rugby Expansion

I looked this up a little while ago and the temperatures in Tokyo for pretty much the entire length of the competition are fine. It does get warm by July but no worse than Brisbane in late February/early March - and given any matches at that time would be played at night I can't see there being...

    New Zealand v Australia - Auckland - 23 August 2014

Wallabies by 14. Best all round Australian performance in several years coming up this Saturday. The All Blacks will play okay, but won't have enough to stop us.

SANZAR Survey on Super Rugby Expansion

They need to expand to have any chance of competing with the money on offer in Europe in the next decade or 2. The SANZAR markets are relatively small but Asia (and America - eventually) are massive. Also, much of Asia is in a good time zone from an Australian perspective. Not saying getting...
