    Tahs V Rebels, SFS, April 30 - 2011R11

It was only that game against Eastwood that caused me to doubt Betham's top end speed, Hawko. I think everyone expected him to cruise to the line. Instead he looked very pedestrian. Of course it is not often a player has cause to make a 60 metre run on a rugby field.

And of course Pappy wouldn't have been wearing his Eastwood President's hat when he said that. On that particular incident though he did have a point. Pete Betham looked as slow as treacle in that run. Actually I doubt that he has real top end speed. But he does have magical feet. For a big...

The "most humble" Matt Burke unlocking the mysteries of Super Rugby for those of us who have never played at that level: "The other area in which the Waratahs will be tested is at the breakdown, particularly by Rebels captain Stirling Mortlock. Perhaps he is not where he was when he captained...

    Waratahs 2011

Greg Growden, "Ruck and Maul". March 11: "One Waratah who was in Nelson has even been nicknamed 'Harvey', as in Harvey Norman, as in no interest." Greg Growden, "Ruck and Maul". March 25: "The lampooned players did not take it well, while another was labelled 'Harvey', as in Harvey...

Halangahu - Carter - Cross: Worst NSW Midfield Ever?

Would it be possible to get a montage of fatprop's various avatars and post them on the blog? In an earlier age such an assemblage could have been used to terrify kids who'd been naughty, but it would probably get you reported to DOCS these days.

    Tahs V Rebels, SFS, April 30 - 2011R11

Having weighed up the two alternatives, Hawko, I reckon I can live with the first option. I will feel no pain and I promise not to dissent. Bugger "the game of rugby"; I can "think of one real benefit" for me.

Media alert: Australian rugby union to announce major decision on the future of rugby

So there we have it. This presumably is the "Major announcement on the future of Rugby in Australia." In terms of sporting initiatives it doesn't get any bigger. The NRL crowed about introducing its Under 20 competition and the AFL is spending half the national debt on trying to get Western...

Media alert: Australian rugby union to announce major decision on the future of rugby

No, Zeno, it's really not. The ANZ Stadium is in the suburb of Sydney Olympic Park, postcode 2127. Homebush Bay is not a suburb. It doesn't have a postcode. In everyday usage the ANZ Stadium is at Homebush, that is, the vast majority of people would understand what was meant by someone giving...

Media alert: Australian rugby union to announce major decision on the future of rugby

Yes, RH, there was really no need to send them up. They do it so well themselves.

Halangahu - Carter - Cross: Worst NSW Midfield Ever?

As Matthew Burke so sagely reminds us, Jnor, we're not really entitled to an opinion.

Halangahu - Carter - Cross: Worst NSW Midfield Ever?

The Waratahs have him listed at 190cm and 90kg which looks about right to me. He is only 19 but if he were doing his S & C at his club, Uni, instead of with the 'Tahs, he would probably be playing at least 5kg heavier given his height and frame.

Ben Roberts trained with the 'Tahs on Thursday, JJ.

Media alert: Australian rugby union to announce major decision on the future of rugby

That's the presser they should be having, RH. I should live so long.

Media alert: Australian rugby union to announce major decision on the future of rugby

I'll go with some lead balloon announcement. If they were announcing some profound strategic initiative to secure the future of our sport they would hardly have the team captain as one of those making the presentation. And that's not in any way intended as a dig at Rocky.

    QLD Premier Rugby 2011

Ain't that the truth? Sin City is far and away the heathen capital of Australia, although we do have a sprinkling of Fred Nile type nutters.

Waratahs show misguided sense of entitlement after tough loss to Reds

I agree totally with you, rsa. Of even greater concern is the extreme abuse and ridicule of individual players.

No, he's not, fp. He's in the Louden Academy

The Ongoing Tragedy of the Waratahs

This has been a very thoughtful thread, starting with Gnostic’s well considered analysis and rounded out, up to this point, by RedsHappy’s constructive views. I find little to disagree with in either of these major contributions although I have a different slant on the Waratahs’ decision “to...
