Declining participation and ARU plans for the future

^^^^^ BraveHeart81 I don't know where to start and heaps of work over the next few days so I will be as brief as I can, I cannot disagree more. Further to my rant above pertaining to the Super competition. This BTW is my opinion and given I am not a highly paid sports admin type I dare...

Declining participation and ARU plans for the future

Progidy I know many of the good folk who run Epping Rugby and aside from a mad president a few years back who wanted to build a club and grandstand complete with bars and pokies on the car park side they have by and large been as good as any club officials. The drop in player numbers is...

My house backs onto Someville Park and 25 tears ago both fields were in use Saturday morning and the big field all day with training four nights a week.. One of my sons played for Epping about 16 years ago and most teams were made up of Epping and Hillview players and sometimes Epping...

^^^^ That Suns figure is amazing any idea why anyone... I think the 100K is achievable but would need to lift Tahs & Reds games to 150K +, tis possible results/ promotion and style of play will all need to come together... achievable yes, possible yes, likely not without change .

Declining participation and ARU plans for the future

League and AFL are down but Soccer has increased hugely. Especially with girls were today more girls are registered in soccer than in netball. Soccer has the AFL worried according to a mate in Perth. He says the AFL is saying soccer has more players now than AFL, League and Union combined...

Wamberal My fear is we have all our eggs in the SANDZAR basket and the ARU essentially reports and wishes to please SANDZAR requirements. We are kinda locked into a pay TV deal with little promotion which has an ageing audience from what I have read. Rugby needs to take control and somehow...

Mostly agree. The elephant in the room is how to break from SANDZAR without going broke. Also accept this has been a lot time coming and Rugby has been poorly managed since the 60's and requires lots of work to fix.

Me thinks you have glossed over what NRL/AFL/ Soccer are doing to grow their games. I could go on but to say NRL & AFL are not international and Soccer has a crowd problem totally masks what they are doing. Further it implies if we wait long enough it will turn around. I think that hides...

ARU take over the Western Force.

Just on the Force a mate of mine was transferred to Perth just over two years ago. He tells me that the Perth soccer team Perth Glory are under new management this year a guy they got from Melbourne and he has turned the club around off the field. I am going on my mates local knowledge and...

Thats sobering and if it follows last years pattern the average will continue to fall. So hard to get media coverage its like the AFL and NRL are the only two sports in Australia.

They are excellent numbers lets hope we can maintain them over the season. A mate sent me this from a sports forum and Rugby is left out and in context it was an AFL fan chatting to a Football fan about the relationship between crowds and ratings. Those AFL sometimes have nothing better to...

    Rugby TV ratings 2015

The new season is about to start with a new media deal. I wonder aloud how our ratings will be this year. I think and improvement by the Reds would add to the ratings. After a successful world cup well the not getting through the group stages as some said was not bad. Recent years have...

Just on the Soccer I think in many ways they are in a similar position to us aside from SBS [and who watches SBS] they don't enjoy great media nor support from the commercial stations. I often feel we should almost join forces as the international games against the AFL and NRL. But boofheads...
