    Ideas for NRC 2015

I don't think 2 teams is enough for NSW. The Country Eagles are a good concept and worth sticking with IMO, while Sydney needs at least 2 teams. It's not as if all the NSW teams were terrible. It was only really the Stars that seemed consistently a step below. And the inner west is too small...

    Broadcast options for Australian Rugby

It could be looked at like that. Or as the top level of domestic rugby. But what it's consistently referred to as is the 3rd tier. Why would anyone pay to see something promoted as third level? You're not even giving yourself a chance calling it that. The thing is the same theory is true...

    Broadcast options for Australian Rugby

I've been saying this for ages as well. Hard to criticise the newspaper when the ARU and rugby people in the media keep calling it the third tier themselves.

    Scrum Talk

Simplest solution in my mind to fix the modern scrum: remove any possibility of penalties at scrum time (with the exception of foul play). Free kicks only for every scrum infringement, and no upgrading them to penalties. The reward for a dominant scrum should be a) a strong platform to attack...

    Scrum Talk

And please point out where I was suggesting scrums shouldn't be part of the game? I think most people enjoy watching a good scrum battle. But scrums collapsing regularly, taking several minutes to set and consistently resulting in penalties that most people don't understand are what shouldn't...

    Scrum Talk

Why is it a stupid excuse? Broadcasters have a schedule that matches are supposed to fit in and currently do. It would make scheduling a little more unpredictable too. Some games would go 10 minutes longer than others. And fine, you might sit through 10+ minutes of a scrum and not care. But a...

    Scrum Talk

So then we'd have to watch even more actual time (not game time) spent on scrums. Not good for the spectacle of the game. It'd also mess with broadcast schedules.

    Broadcast options for Australian Rugby

I'd guess any figures would be referring to the value of the media coverage he's generated.

    Los Jaguares 2016

Good to get an Argentinian's perspective! Have you heard anything more about the Super Rugby team? Where it will be based, team name, sponsorship etc? How will it be differentiated from the Pumas?

    Broadcast options for Australian Rugby

Well you guys might find it easy to avoid the result - or still watch it if you know the result. But I think a lot of people will see the result on social media, or somewhere on the internet and then have no interest in watching a full replay. I guess we'll find out when we see how it rates. I...

    Broadcast options for Australian Rugby

I guess it's better than nothing, but by then everyone with an interest will know the result, so I can't see it making much of an impact. Given the ball is in play for only 35 minutes or so of a game, I think it could be cool if they condensed their replay of a game into a significantly...

    Rugby TV ratings 2015

I think the way the Brumbies have played hasn't helped them for crowds. They haven't exactly thrilled the fans with their style of rugby. But going by the game against the Reds maybe that will change this season. Whether people like it or not, the style of play is an important factor when it...

    Rugby 7s general chat

I doubt Eddie Jones is looking at him as a long term player for Japan, but he could come in handy at the world cup. Just has to play in 4 world series legs and he'll be eligible. The 4th (if he plays all from here) would be in Scotland from 9-10th May. So plenty of time to prepare for the world...

    Broadcast options for Australian Rugby

Btw, is that $35-40 million in USD?

    Broadcast options for Australian Rugby

I remember reading last year that $40 million is what some super rugby CEO's believed was needed to ensure financial viability. So lets hope it's closer to 40 than 35.

    Ideas for NRC 2015

The NRL and AFL have a few themed rounds during their season - indigenous round, heritage round, women's round etc. Maybe the NRC could follow suit. Have separate rounds celebrating club rugby, schools rugby and women in rugby for example.

    Ideas for NRC 2015

Costs would be reduced so you wouldn't have to get double. I wouldn't want to see a double header every round, but as I've said on this thread previously I think there should be a double header in both Sydney and Brisbane once per season. And at least one in Sydney where you could have all 4...

    Rugby 7s general chat

There definitely needs to be some sort of national sevens championship where guys like that have a chance to prove what they've got against incumbents. Or we could run sevens combines like the US did recently (and which resulted in them plucking a guy out of obscurity, Ahmad Harajly for their...

    Ideas for NRC 2015

A bastardised version of the game!? Because of a points system that reduces penalty goals? What hyperbole! And aren't you the guy that always goes on about needing to change the laws to make rugby more entertaining? How do you think this will happen without competitions trialling new law...
