    Heineken Cup 2013

As expected Hartley has been cited for striking Best in Friday's Northampton v Ulster game. He got his ban for biting Ferris in the 6Ns reduced because of testimony that he was a reformed character. Wonder if he'll get another reduction this time.

    Heineken Cup 2013

Having seen the tackle again I'd agree red was a little harsh. On first view it live it looked a lot worse then on replays. Fully agree with Dan, so far this year's pool stage has been really enjoyable with a lot more competitive matches than some other years.

    Heineken Cup 2013

Was very pleased with Leinster's performance against Clermont, could have won the game in the end. Still happy with a losing bonus point, well done to Clermont it was a cracking game.

    Heineken Cup 2013

Cardiff currently leading 12-9 against Montpelier but they've been reduced to 14 men as Lloyd Williams has been shown a red card for a tip tackle. Will be a great effort from Cardiff to win this one. Actually just as I type Montpelier have gone over in the corner for a try. Even tougher task...

    Rugby - not set pieces

Heard in the commentary of the Cardiff v Montpelier HEC game today. Just after the tackle which resulted in Lloyd Williams being shown a red card players from both teams rushed into a big melee this prompted one of the commentary team to say "You'd think they were giving something away free...

    Heineken Cup 2013

Great to see the odd result like this to show the progress being made in countries who very rarely get the spotlight. Hopefully in the revamp that's agreed for the Heineken & Amlin Cup the team from Romania, Spain etc. aren't shafted if more room has to be made for Pro12 teams in the comp...

Quade telling it how it is

I think it's good that he's signed for 2 year as it at least opens the possibility of the next Wallabies coach bringing him back into the fold if Deans does freeze him out for the Lions. I hope he does mature and reaches his full potential, some mercurial talents never do, see Paul Gascoigne in...

    Heineken Cup 2013

No tries but it was the game of the day for me. Pool is nicely balanced now for the return fixture. Farrell had a nightmare with the boot today but he got the crucial kick for the losing bonus point. In the other games I watched today I thought Toulouse made hard work of a depleted Ospreys and...

Should the ARU cut their losses and abolish the National Academies?

On a rough count so far that's about 14% of the academy confirmed on contracts for next season? How does that compare to the 3 academies run by the Reds, Force and Brumbies? If the franchises would rather have their own academies and can afford it then maybe the ARU's money would be better...

    Rebels 2013

Which law set is being adopted for the other changes? Those that are in use in the HEC and EOYT or does it also include the additional laws used in the Aviva Premiership which extend the role of the TMO?

    Thoughts on Folau to rugby

Just on the top up alone, if a team has room in their budget to take on a short term contract like this fair enough it's their gamble. But I don't see why the ARU or any National Union should top up a short term contract for someone who'll be doing well to nail down a regular starting spot for...

    Heineken Cup 2013

Excellent performance from Ulster tonight beating Northampton 25-6. The first half was pretty even with Ulster's finishing edging it for them. Tries from both wings Bowe and Trimble gave them a 13-3 lead. At the beginning of the 2nd half Ulster took complete control and a well taken try from...

    Lions Tour 2013

Rob Howley, Graham Rowntree and Andy Farrell have been confirmed as part of Gatland's coaching staff. http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/rugby-union/20638321

    2015 World Cup: England

Yes they are Jets, Roger Lewis (WRU Chief Executive) is even making a cheeky bid to get England to play their pool game against Wales at the Millennium Stadium. http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/rugby-union/20587821

    Waratahs 2013

Agree with Richo Cheika likes his squad to be somewhat interchangeable so would expect Folau to be given a few opportunities to start. Hopefully we'll see a Tahs squad that can cope better with injuries emerge over the next few years.

    RWC 2015 Pools

They did say a few months ago that Wales would not be given preference for games stages at the Millennium Stadium.

    Waratahs 2013

The simple answer to your question BDA is that most administrators look to the short term gain. The numbers stack up in the short term for these kinds of contracts. They're not worried about getting fans for life with these guys they're worried about squeezing as much cash out of fans for the...

    Heineken Cup 2013

Looking forward to the return of the HEC for the 3rd round of games this weekend. In 5 of the 6 pools the top 2 teams play each other with the return games featuring the same match ups the following weekend. These are the moving weekends in the pool stages. Some teams who are top of their...

    Rugby Provincial Team World Championship

Up here January is one of the busiest months with all the domestic leagues in actions, 2 round of HEC and then in the final week of the month all top tier competitions with the exception of the LV Cup are suspended as players are with their national squads for the start of the 6Ns. With the...

    Rugby Provincial Team World Championship

Could definitely see a one off game each year between the HEC and S15 winners. But I think the clubs in the NH already play too much rugby to fit in another competition. Although like soccer it probably depends, big soccer teams in Europe complained about having to play too many games when they...
