Agree with the below though - it's extremely disappointing that a growing market, which is starting to produce both fans and players, is in jeopardy.

Yeah, that wasn't why your post was bizarre...

    Broadcast options for Australian Rugby

    Ay? Fox's initial offer was somewhere around $40m, Stan's was ~$30m - that's ~25% less

These were the most-recently published figures relating to Fox's offer - of course the true offer may never be known. https://www.smh.com.au/sport/rugby-union/nine-offers-30-million-for-rugby-union-broadcast-rights-20201018-p56654.html

I think we're all surprised, which is why this has blown up. The ad really doesn't read like you're providing a support function to exisiting analysts.

15 week regular season, 2 days per week at 8hr days = 240hrs Add match days, you're looking at minimum another 3hrs each week (excluding any travel, which I assume there will be, given they specified all games). So 265 hours all up across the regular season - over 33 8hr days - and, as said...

I believe even at QPR level, there is a paid (casual) pool of individuals who code footage prior to it being upload to Hudl. While they're employed by Double Take, you'd think that's the minimum expectation.

Even disregarding the lack of remuneration, the filming, coding, and analysis of training and match footage sounds like a lot more than 1-2 days (plus matches) work per week...

    Broadcast options for Australian Rugby

If it was as simple as that, Fox would have never let go of Super, A-League, Premier League, etc. If it doesn't make dollars, it doesn't make sense.

    Broadcast options for Australian Rugby

Genuine question - why? A home WC and Lions tour will of course bring eyeballs for short periods, but all metrics have regular viewership in decline - with the NRL broadcast deal up in 2027, I'd say they'll be putting all their chips in for that. Granted, the broadcast game has changed...

Fox (and NewsCorp) have made it pretty clear they have no interest in rugby - and certainly not for big money. We've already got one Super match FTA on Gem each Saturday night. A new broadcast deal needs to be pushing for more.

Netflix are definitely pushing into the live broadcasting space - just signed a massive US$5bn 10yr deal with WWE https://www.theguardian.com/media/2024/jan/23/netflix-live-streaming-wwe-raw-deal

Update of sorts on the preferred backline - apparently combos at training have been all over the place, proper blank slate. We'll get a better idea in the trials.

Intentional typo to drive socials engagement and resonate with 'the people'. Genius really

    Super Rugby General Chat

The question is how many will kick on. I ran the numbers back in August - only 7 (or 8) of 38 players in the Brums' 2023 squad came through the ACT junior pathway (I'm not sure I'd call U19s junior tbh).

    Queensland Reds 2024

No whispers that I've heard but, given they're back training, I'm sure someone has a scoop. You wouldn't think HMP will get a run until later in the season / injuries, as he's undoubtedly bottom of the pecking order. We saw last season that JOC (James O'Connor) really is a 12 who was shoehorned into 10, but...

I'd be very interested to see interest in other sports among younger fans. I'd dare say interest in basketball and soccer would be much higher, which is worrying, given they're the competing winter codes in schools (plus AFL of course).
