    QLD Premier Rugby 2014

GPS Prems have been training for a while now but the club announced yesterday that training for all grades and colts begins on Tuesday 14th Jan. I think a lot of players will be wondering why such an early start and may not bother coming down for a while as there hasn't been much said about the...

Traditionally yes, I would say it will follow the same format but just be adjusted for however many teams are available for that grade. For example traditionally only 4-5 clubs are able to field Colts 2 sides, so in that case there will most likely be more bye weeks so all teams have the same...

    QLD Colts 2014

TD do you know if Wests have been able to address what makes their players leave halfway through the season though? It seems they always get decent numbers to pre season as you say 40 odd boys and are able to field a couple of colts sides but then suddenly the numbers start dropping and before...

I agree, with how it stands there won't be many spaces available for non-contracted players, there may even be a handful of players from the Force and Rebels returning to brissy club sides depending if they are released or not which further fills roster spots. However, these teams will obviously...

He is fairly handy with the boot, I believe. Depending on who else bros get in Prem grade Milne would probably be first choice kicker. I wonder if some of these club officials are starting to get a bit more info about the NRC. For example if amalgamation teams are happening there may be a rule...

Shame to lose Milne, good young player. Makes sense though, he hasnt played as much premier grade rugby as he'd like at GPS, he is fairly injury prone though. Good luck to him.

    Reds 2014

For me, Taps is one of the players, like Aiden Tuoa, who is starting to look expendable with the current Reds roster. I know he's still young but with good younger talent coming through like F'Sautia, Kerevi, Kuridrani and JJ, if Taps can't regularly crack the starting lineup in 2014 he might be...

Well logically you would think the QRU needs to step in and start organising things, maybe float some money to clubs if necessary. The fact i've heard they aren't involving themselves in the process at all does seem odd to me but then again, I heard from the start that the QRU and Brisbane based...

TrainerGB, I think you will find that the ARU are asking for LOTS of $$$ in order to gain a licence (I've heard as much as $500-700k but that may be exaggeration), as seen on the actual 3rd Tier forum where there are talks of many of the richer Sydney clubs having to form amalgamations. For this...

I'd argue Brothers are trying to rebuild on a club level rather than in Prems. As you say SX they have plenty of talent but the reason they can't compete at finals time is lack of depth. Prems and Prem Colts have been strong recently but some of the lower grades have been whipping boys for a...

    Reds 2014

Ive heard the Hunt to Broncos deal has been essentially done for a while now, just waiting to sign on the dotted lines. The deal has obviously put Josh Hoffman in even more of a sticky situation as he was already feeling upset about the signing of Barba. I know most rumour journo articles...

Just a little info tidbit - JOC (James O'Connor) did actually play a season or two for Brothers in juniors. I know he played a few games there in under 16s, possible another season as well I believe.

    QLD Colts 2014

Good pick up by GPS - from all accounts there is a large group of players going down for 2014 so should be a strong year in all colts grades. @Breakdown - its been running on Tues and Thurs now for about 4 weeks. Haven't actually been to any sessions but apparently they're getting about 20ish...

I never said they hadn't earned their positions did I? You were implying that any backline additions were coming through to any already superstar backline, Im simply stating the obvious that those areas in the backline were not as strong as others, as I mentioned frequently during the season...

Cat_A, yes Picone's influence through his managing agency has definitely been seen at the club since his inclusion in 2012. He brought in the likes of Junior Rasolea, Pama Fou, Joey Lala and Sean McMahon (I believe) who were all fairly established 7s players at the time and have since all moved...

Surely the QRU will have a follow up announcement soon with their intentions. I would have thought the ARU would have left the announcement of teams involved until mid-season to minimise the amount of players defecting to other clubs (at least in the first year) if the individual route is taken.

Pinched this link from the 3rd tier comp thread for those of you who may not be following it http://www.rugby.com.au/ArticleDetails/tabid/1694/ArticleID/10650/Default.aspx The last section about nominating for the comp troubles me. As I said may happen they are allowing any club/team to...

SX my point was that it is lose/lose situation if we have that setup IMO. Of course, if GPS decided to not allow players to play they would then be forced to leave if they wanted higher honours and then on the flip side, if the QRU/ARU said alright you can fund yourselves and become Brisbane...

    QLD Premier Rugby 2014

No one said they wanted financial clout to dictate player ratio but it is one of the downsides to some of these proposed setups that we're talking about. I fully believe that the best players should be playing in this competition but i've said it from that start that I think this whole idea is...
