Yes, they are competing in the 3rd XV competition. They beat Sydney Boys a few weeks back in a close game - 15 to 5, though I believe this may have been a trial game. As a side note, a lot of the previous year's team was composed of Year 12 boys, as I understand.

Curious as to whether any schools are playing at all this upcoming long weekend.

Shame to hear of the loss of both these men. I fondly remember having spent one long afternoon tea at Scots discussing everything rugby and beyond with Mr. Dedrick for a game I sat out injured back in my playing days. A sad loss for the whole community at Scots and indeed Australian rugby circles.

Also the word 'cattle' is used far too often on this forum; can we please invest in a sidebar thesaurus of rugby colloquialisms?

Both of you have some truth here. Yes, coaches need to be improved at 13s level. And yes, physical intimidation does, as much as our macho, hormone-fuelled instincts may tell us otherwise, play a part in physical competition. But I figure I might throw two minor additions to each one. Firstly...

Oh and may I give my full congratulations to Newington for such an outstanding season. While I may take exception to their policies, the conduct and demeanor of their boys is a pleasure to witness, and they show humility rarely seen in conjuction with such talent. Bravo.

All those at Weigall today I'm sure can agree upon the quality an intensity of all the games. The usual rivalry was shown between Grammar and High. The seconds was a free flowing contest, as Grammar won comfortably by 53 to 5. The firsts was, despite the score line, a game that was both even and...

No, there appears to have been a mix up in the article. Unfortunately, some of the Grammar boys seem to have used the mistake to engage in what the Eastern Suburbs MILF patrol would quickly spill their free-trade, double soy mocha lattes over what they deem as cyber bullying.

Lachlan Anderson, the 2nds five-eights? I love the ambitious approach, but he is probably the skinniest player I saw in either 1sts or 2nds this entire year. And Oscar Pople is Year 12, not returning next year. I struggle to see Tepai being able to understand and develop the necessary...

Well, in all seriousness, it could be a fun match to watch. Grammar will want to paste high, and the High boys usually get up for this one. And if you like bust-ups, there usually seems to be one during they day. P.S. If anyone actually is seriously considering attending, the match is at...

Pardon me, that may have been a bit unclear. I hope, I really do, that they and the year above are rewarded for their hard work with a chance to play Sydney's best next year in the GPS 1sts competition. Unfortunately, I believe this will finally be the point that the GPS or the school pulls the...

And one would hope their given the chance; they've performed incredibly well this year through the loss of about 5 backs and 3 forwards, stretching the depth of an age group that's quite thin. Time will tell what happens; I at least hope those kids know there really isn't a whole lot more they...

Grammar's 2's played probably the lost entertaining game of rugby I've seen all year; lots of wide play, trickery and kicking. Great game to watch, both sides should be very happy with themselves. Gave a bit of hope before the unfortunate 1sts result. Interesting in that I do believe that despite...

And those are all the issues that comes with changing the current system, especially the reluctance of a few of the GPS schools to change. With the rising wave of scholarships, I hate to say it, but club rugby in Sydey during the teenage years may be a dying form (I hope not, but if the Eastern...

    The Ideal NSW Schools Comp

Sorry I thought I had put enough into it. I'll try and make the appropriate comparisons here, but sorry if I lose you at any point. Governing Body Above all, to effectively run this system, a rugby adept governing body to regulate and preside over all the leagues would be necessary. A board...

    The Ideal NSW Schools Comp

If any are interested, a look at the U.S.'s college football system might be interesting. To give it a very short summary: 1) Schools are divided into conferences, generally matched by geographic relations (not overly necessary in this case) and school ethos and principle. Those schools which...

I will admit that back in the day I played for Easts until U/12s, and this really helped me develop on top of my school commitments (school games were Thursday afternoons). When I entered Grammar in Year 7, this came to an end, as school commitments were given priority (by the school). I'm not...

Exactly the problem this year. I suppose we'll have to wait and see. If Jones is as good a player as we all know he is, then he's going to have to do what great players sometimes need to; approach his coach and tell him where he needs to be and what he can do. Nothing earns a coach's respect...
