    NSW AAGPS Rugby 2016

I should have elaborated previously that Trinity played hard, skilful and determined rugby in all games, irrespective of the results. In the seconds New were leading 50-0 with 4 minutes to go. Only to have this brave Trinity side score in the corner. Equally, in the Firsts the score was 48-0...

NSW AAGPS - The Next Generation - U16 Competition, and Presidents XV Rep Team

And they did with three forwards playing in the firsts.Further, Trinity were not a weak side or played badly. Newington just simply played a great deal better. The backs particularly the inside backs were the stars for me.

    NSW AAGPS Rugby 2016

Does any one know where and when the Newington v Trinty Games are being played. Further, will the teams be at full strength as in the past I watched more of a joint 1st XV & 2XV Team play. Also usually, the 13As,14s,15s &16As play as well. Any information is very much appreciated.

Australian Schoolboys & National Championships 2016

We have a NSW forums specialising in GPS,CAS and ISA and we have Queensland forums for GPS and their Associated Schools. Today's 42-16 result in favour of Victoria, more than justifies their start up on Green and Gold for a Victorian Schoolboys site. I am sure their are Victorians who could...

NSW AAGPS - The Next Generation - U16 Competition, and Presidents XV Rep Team

The last thing I would describe the New 16As as a side carried by a few stars. The games I have seen they have performed as a excellent outfit. Of the three matches loss two could have been won. Only the 7-21 loss to Joeys stands out as anything resembling a poor show. Even TKS supporters...

NSW AAGPS - The Next Generation - U16 Competition, and Presidents XV Rep Team

Many Thanks Andrew, Good to hear it was a high quality game, A few critics have been a bit hard on Newington saying the players out of forum. I prefer a more positive outlook, that this age group is immensely talented. With the exception of Shore, each side can beat the other on its day. 9-8...

NSW AAGPS - The Next Generation - U16 Competition, and Presidents XV Rep Team

This might reflect the importance of the clash, the perception of Home Town decisions should always be avoided. The 16A Games should have their referees appointed as the 1sts and 2nds. Oh, could someone most kindly supply the score of that Game, that was Kings v Newington Game. Many Thanks

    Demise of the Waratah Shield?

I regret to say that with the exception of the Sports High Schools, Agricultural High Schools and a few Boys High Schools such as Epping, Randwick and Homebush, that state high schools will simply, too often lack the Sports Ethos needed to run an effective Rugby Program. Teachers don't get...

    School sporting scholarships/recruitment

If memory serves me correctly, the Newington intake of 2010 was about 150 boys. We field only four rugby teams, although the 13As were immensely talented. But that year was the beginning of New's rise as a schoolboy rugby power. Be it largely confined to the top teams. The 2011 intake hit 240...

    School sporting scholarships/recruitment

A most valid point IS, unfortunately there are still parents who see their sons success at a GPS School, being graded into a top sports team. I remember a friend from school once saying that life at Newington would be great, if it wasn't for all those exams and assignments. Needless to say his...

My apologies, the last sentence should say" should not be left to a small group of Headmasters". The GPS system belongs as much to its Old Boys as anybody else.

    School sporting scholarships/recruitment

I starting to wonder, if an American College football style competition is variable. Where scholarships are openly there for the taking. I accept that traditionalists will not approve, but the need to have a balanced competition to me is more important. Certain schools will naturally attract...

Although not GPS, but St.Augustines's 1st XV, particularly its Backline is reputed to be a junior Manly Rugby league rep backline. Also, the Sports High Schools, are very much Rugby League rep teams as well.

I first heard of it with Eastern Suburbs paying the fees of three players in 1999 at Scots. That year they got a 5/8, an outside centre and a Fullback. However, the Kings sides of the late 1990s and early 2000s were largely successful due to benefactors. In these cases TKS parents were the...

But only down to Ds in the 14s,15, and 16s. Although they started out in the Waverly Games having 14 Es & 15 Es. However, what is extremely pleasing as New Supporter, is the presence of a 7th XV in the Opens. I also hear the school, is growing and bursting at seams in numbers. Some 1350 boys in...

Yes, one of the last great Grammar sides, as was 1974 & 1978. Although, the 1978 side started out been beaten convincingly in their first three matches only to turn it around in their fourth game against Joeys. The only other team after 1980 was the 1986 side who won 4 out 7. Such a tragic...

Yes,that is certainly one way of looking at the issue and I certainly cannot disagree that self interest plays a part, at times, in such selections. But I feel the overall opportunity given, even if it drags only a small number of boys out of poverty, is worth the effort. I sight the...
