    Where to for Super Rugby?

Is not half's point overall: Soccer seems more and more able to do these sorts of things, whilst rugby seem - generally - incapable of them? Just take Ballymore in Brisbane. An outstanding piece of potentially exciting and code-building rugby infrastructure of great potential that...

    Where to for Super Rugby?

@half #7023 Thanks for that - your admirable passion for the cause knows no bounds mate. I was just again staggered that that RUPA and VRU could go to all the trouble for all parties to incept an ARU EGM that was meant to be about a serious debate and questioning re the '5->4 Super teams...

    Where to for Super Rugby?

"No detailed questions were asked of ARU officials (by delegates to the EGM)". What a spineless bunch of supine fucking gutless jelly babies that lot of our supposed elite State RU representatives are. As if the highly relevant, screaming-out-for-answers questions that needed urgent addressing...

    Australia v Italy, Suncorp Stadium, 24th June 2017 @ 3:00pm

I sort of buy this but......... Having posted here for now 7 years, the problem I have often seen with your request as above over that period has, for me at least, darker overtones. Historically, the 'don't mention the coaching issues or critique the coaching' on game threads was often the...

    Australia v Italy, Suncorp Stadium, 24th June 2017 @ 3:00pm

S2050 - as you infer - assuming a broadly equivalent athletic and rugby-playing level of squad, it's absolutely the case that elite coaching is the differentiating factor in attaining (or degrading) superior game results over time. It's been proven time and time again. Further, and to this...

    Australia v Italy, Suncorp Stadium, 24th June 2017 @ 3:00pm

We have some different recollections of October 2015 then. Scotland and Ireland must have co-incidentally accumulated 'better than ever' squads as well so their relatively new coaches can't take much credit for their teams' improvements.

    Australia v Italy, Suncorp Stadium, 24th June 2017 @ 3:00pm

Interesting theory - we have a crap-ish limited squad but good Test coaches. I remember so well how the England squad was described in similar terms after their RWC 2015 debacle - 'worst ever', etc. Since then with EJ (Eddie Jones) they've lost just 1 Test.

    Where to for Super Rugby?

Nice try at a viable defence of the ARU's policies. Only problem is: if you hungar for income - as did the ARU in selling broadcasters a fifth Aus Super team - and just provide volume to get it, you must inevitably provide decent and consistent product quality to sustain the viability of the...

What an amazing surprise. The revolution must now await another day.

    Australia v Italy, Suncorp Stadium, 24th June 2017 @ 3:00pm

Broadly I agree S2050. Let's all be honest - for fans and in terms of objective results, 2016 was an appalling Wallaby year and this one has started no better with the home loss to Scotland combined with very poor crowd levels reflecting the obvious opinion of our rugby fans regarding the...

BTW: the ARU board seems to be leaking to News Corp journos that their plan for BP is that he'll be dumped once the Super teams debacle is resolved (in 2019?) and the forward-looking air is thus clear for a new CEO to start. I suspect this was consciously leaked earlier this week to pre-empt...

Yeah, my personal favourite weasel in all that carefully crafted 'looks like I'd readily resign but not really' bumph was the bit where 'everybody in the room' has to ask him to go vs 'a number of participants'. The chance of everybody in that hotbed of radical strategic thinking and code...

Australia v Scotland, 3:00pm 17 June Sydney Football Stadium

If they arrived at Suncorp instead of Italy this Saturday, would we beat the cut-down EJ (Eddie Jones)-coached England side that beat Argentina in recent weeks?

Presently ILTW, Cheika's Test sausages are being orally ejected upon tasting.

Australia v Scotland, 3:00pm 17 June Sydney Football Stadium

To your very good point Wamberal - do we see that Cheika is fixing anything very much? One would assume that 4 straight losses v England incl no less than 3 in a row on home soil would be enough for most Test HCs to want to fix - and urgently and fundamentally so - many things about his team.

Australia v Scotland, 3:00pm 17 June Sydney Football Stadium

Astute post utr#! You summed up a worrying, and now quite repetitive, aspect of Cheika's 'coaching mindset' and general temperament very well. I've said numerous times here that I consider he's made major errors of commission and omission with his Wallaby coaching group. And this group seems...

    Where to for Super Rugby?

Noted br, I respect your perspective. Although I also note that various seemingly 'in the know' Rebels fans here have at times offered quite different accounts (to yours.....and perhaps to mine too!) of the CEO and HC appointing matters we are discussing. I just don't know how black and white...

    Where to for Super Rugby?

Yes. And the problem with asking local RUs to 'give up their power' to (presumably) the current ARU is that everybody knows that the 2017 ARU totally lacks the calibre of business executive and rugby specialists necessary to properly execute a centralised code development strategy a la the...
