  1. Quick Hands

    Australian Rugby / RA

To anyone underestimating the impact that the demise of the Force might have on the future of Australian rugby. For the first time in many years Western Australia haven't sent a state team to the Australian Schoolboys Rugby Championships and their place has been filled by a Barbarians team...

    Shute Shield 2019

    I believe so.
  3. Quick Hands

    Australian Schoolboys / Under 18s 2019

It's a very strange situation. Almost as concerning as the fact that there is no WA team. I suspect that we've handed league a huge opportunity in the west that we'll never get back.

    Shute Shield 2019

Thought that Manly were quite disappointing in this game - the first half they were quite pedestrian. I did notice one very strange aspect. The Manly half should have been penalised every scrum as his scrum feeds wouldn't have been out of place in an NRL game. The curious thing was that this...

I think you have it. :) Clark will be joined in commentary by Horan, Martin, Kafer, Hoiles, Mitchell and Gregan

    Concussions and Protecting Our Players

New Jersey high school football teams could soon have the strictest player-on-player practice contact rules in the history of the sport. The New Jersey State Interscholastic Athletic Association, the governing board of the state's high school athletics, unanimously approved a proposal Wednesday...

    Concussions and Protecting Our Players

Some interesting moves in the US have seen 'full collision' at training limited in both high school and college football (gridiron) programmes. Youth football contact rules restrict full contact between players including tackling and blocking. Such rules may limit the number of days or hours...

    Where to for Super Rugby?

I can only give my experience which is that as someone who was once at every Waratah home game and regularly watched the Friday and/or Saturday evening games on TV, that I haven't been to a game for three years and haven't watched a full game on TV for 2 years (in both cases counting 2019 as one...

    NSW AAGPS 2019

^^^All of the state schools mentioned above had weekly Wednesday afternoon CHS zone competitions to play in, which ran all winter (all of Term 2 in those days of a 3 term year). I was in Year 12 in 1981 and played with and against most of the Sydney-based CHS boys in the team either at school...

    Where to for Super Rugby?

NZ isn't to blame for Super Rugby's problems. Super Rugby is the problem. It suits NZ more than it suits others in that it provides a lengthy and high intensity AB selection trial process. I note from articles in the NZ press that even in NZ fewer and fewer people are watching Super Rugby, but it doesn't matter because...

    NSW AAGPS 2019

2016 was the year I was thinking about.

It's probably also why NSW2 have had some success over the years - one year at least even beating NSW1 in the final IIRC.

And still 3 rounds to go, plus humourous chit chat during the rugby starved holidays.:)

Accompanied by the Dwayne Johnson look of smoldering intensity. :)

    Australian Rugby / RA

One of the things which has landed Australian rugby in its current predicament is the desire for homogenised good news, often delivered by compliant journalists who are essentially an extension of the ARU/RA public relations process. The pathetic irony of Clyne's comments today gave me plenty...

    ISA 2019

Think it's a bit deeper than that. St Augs haven't played most of their firsts in this fixture for 5 years in order to keep the score close. Their 2nds and 3rds used to win easily in this game.
  19. Quick Hands

    NSW AAGPS 2019

I think that you're wrong, but we'll just agree to disagree. EDIT: Lee Grant used to spell this out every year and he had the information directly from the selectors. I found a reference here and there were numerous others over the years...
  20. Quick Hands

    NSW AAGPS 2019

In the past the 1st XV was chosen first and then the 2nd XV, then the reserves for the 1st XV, then the reserves for the 2nd XV and lastly shadow players (if any). The thinking was that the starting players would get more game time. Who knows if that is still the case in this new system.
